– (Chapter: Can’t We Just Stay Like This?)
"We need to talk."
Spencer always hated hearing those words from Ashley. It usually meant she was mad at her and was about to confront her. This time Spencer knew it was different. The way she said it made Spencer get butterflies. And that kiss; she waited so long for this to happen. Were her dreams of Ashley coming true?
Ashley shifted uneasily, pulling Spencer from her dream world. Spencer opened her mouth to ask what they needed to talk about when Ashley held up her hand; Spencer shut up quickly. She sat back and waited for what Ashley had to say. Ashley was deep in thought when she knew exactly how to put what she felt in words. Spencer noticed she was about to talk and sat up straight, hoping for the best.
Ashley’s words started to pour from her mouth in a nervous babble, Spencer understand them though. "Spencer, I don’t know if you feel the same. I don’t want to ruin your vacation, but I can’t hold it in any longer." She took a deep breath, "I like you. Ever since the Tenth Grade when I met you and you told me you were gay I have liked you. Even in Eleventh I wanted you. I never wanted to avoid or hurt you; I was an idiot for doing that. I know you forgave me for what I did to you that whole school year, but I can’t get over it. Everyday I see you and I think back and wonder why I would do that. My answer was that I was scared, Spencer."
Spencer couldn’t believe it, she never thought she had felt the same. She took in a deep breath and asked the only thing that was on her mind, "What was there to be afraid of?" Spencer tilted her head and smiled.
"You really want to know?" Ashley questioned, Spencer nodded. "I was afraid of loving you. Your so beautiful, you were the one everybody would fall for in high school. I guess I was put under your spell, too." Ashley felt accomplished, she was now all out in the open. But, Spencer never said if she felt the same way. Ashley frowned and went to move from the bed; regretting what she just did. Spencer grabbed her wrist to pull her back; it was her turn now.
