Chapter One: Putting The Heat In Cheat

“Ashley! Thank God your home!” Exclaimed the rather frazzled blonde on the other side of the door. The brunette looked puzzled, stepping aside to grant the girl entrance into her small apartment.

“Jesus Spencer, it’s 1am. I know you get impulses, but you really need to get this under control…” Ashley spoke, locking the door and turning around to face the other girl, “I mean, not that I mind the late night booty calls but I do have work in the morning.”

“This isn’t about that- Ash-I-think-Nick-knows.” Spencer blurted out, her words running together as she paced across the living room, “He is going to kill me.”

“Knows, knows?” The brunette inquired, arching a brow as she folded her arms over her stomach, “How would he know?”

“I have no idea, but he’s left me about 50 voicemails saying he fucking knows!” Spencer’s temper flared, irked by how bemused the brunette seemed.

Ashley sighed, a bit too tired to get the shock and horror reaction she knew Spencer was looking for, “Well, did he sound pissed or what?”

Spencer continued to pace, her entire body a collection of nerves, “He’s looking for me, he’s looking for me right now. I can’t let him find me- Ashley if you were trying to find me, where would you look?”

“In the closet?” Replied the brunette sarcastically, earning a menacing glare from the none too amused girl.

“That is not funny.” Spencer spoke, finally collapsing onto the couch and leaning her head up against the cushion. She didn’t even know why she was here. Of all places to run from her potentially homicidal husband, why would she ever think this was the right one to go to? Of course Ashley wouldn’t understand or empathize, she never did.

“It was a little funny.” Responded the girl as she took a seat beside Spencer, her eyes staring at the blank TV screen across from them.

“I’m trying to be serious here Ash… I’m really scared.” The blonde uttered softly after a moments silence, her bottom lip trembling slightly.

The brunette tipped her head lazily to the side, eyeing the outline of Spencer’s features. When they’d first started this whole fling, Ashley had known it wouldn’t last. Affairs never do. So she’d spent a good deal of time making sure there was a firm wall built between them, one that would protect her from getting hurt when Spencer inevitably decided to re-devote herself to her husband like a good catholic. It seemed harsh, but generally whenever Spencer did try to open up or share something with the brunette she just shut her down. Now she stared at the girl, torn between heart and head.
