Check Out My Shorts [a compilation of one shots]. – (Chapter: – Put Your Sweet Lips.)
I’ve been sitting in a bar that a friend of mine owns for a while now. I’d rather be with Ashley, but I can’t, not yet. She’s with her hopefully soon to be ex-boyfriend right now. I would have never considered an affair before, but with Ashley it just all fell into place and I couldn’t help myself. It wasn’t like I was her dirty little secret, we’re in love, pure and simple. We’d been friends for years before she started dating some guy, she stayed with him out of convenience and would always complain to me about him. Somewhere down the line it transpired into our own relationship forming. He was out of town a lot which made it easier on us not having to sneak around as much. Eventually the strain of having to share her became too much, so now all I can do is just wait for her to end things with him.
Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone.
Let’s pretend that we’re together, all alone.
I’m getting pretty bored at the bar and call Ash to see if she’s on her way home yet, and because I just miss her.
“Hey baby.” I coo into my phone.
“Hey Spence.” She breathes. And just like that nothing else exists, nothing but us.
I’ll tell the man to turn the jukebox way down low,
And you can tell your friend there with you you’ll have to go.
“Hold on a second Ash.” I say before I put my hand over the phone. “Hey Drake, can you turn the music down just a bit please?” I smile at my friend while pointing to the phone. Once I hear that he has I turn my attention back to the phone in my hand.
“Sorry, I couldn’t hear a thing. So are you home yet?”
“No, not yet.” She sighs.
“Well that doesn’t sound too good. Is anything wrong?”
“You know how he is. He’s being so good to me, but I want to break up with him tonight. He’s just making it so hard.” My heart starts beating wildly at the idea of Ashley being free of him.
Whisper to me; tell me do you love me true?
Or is he holding you the way I do?
“Do you love me?” I ask.
“Of course I do.” She whispers.
“Well that’s all there is to it. You love me, and I love you. You need to do this so we can have our chance.”
“I know I do, I know. It’s just really hard, my mouth isn’t forming the words that I need to say to him.”
“Have you…I mean you haven’t…let him touch you have you?” I can’t believe I just asked that, but I needed to know.
“No. Baby, god no.” Is her immediate response.
Though love is blind, make up your mind, I’ve got to know;
Should I hang up or will you tell him he’ll have to go?
“Okay, I’m sorry for even asking that. We just can’t keep doing this anymore, you can’t have us both, it’s not fair.” I say getting far too emotional for a public place.
“Spence, it’ll happen soon, I promise.”
You can’t say the words I want to hear while you’re with another man.
Do you want me? Answer yes or no, darling I will understand.
“You can’t say all these things to me while you and him are still together.”
“I won’t be with him for much longer.”
“Do you want me?” I ask after a long silence from both of us.
“Only you.” Was the last thing I heard before I hung up the phone. This is all getting far too much for me so I quickly leave the bar and head home.
Just as I’m about to turn the TV off and head to bed I hear a knock on my front door. I walk over and open it and there stands Ashley, chest heaving like she’s just run all the way here.
“I told him all I wanted was you.” Is all she says before I jump into her arms and fuse my lips to hers.
