A slew of goosebumps invaded my skin as the plane began to lower. Every second, I was moving closer and closer to L.A… closer to Ashley. I felt the wheels come out, indicating that we would be landing any moment now, and gasped when they finally made contact with the ground. I was here. I was finally in L.A.
I shuffled out of the plane after we had been told we could do so, wheeling my bag in tow. I hadn’t wanted to check my bag; I figured it would take way too long to get it, and I just wanted to get out of the airport. I pulled my phone out and immediately dialed Aiden’s number.
“Hey,” he answered.
“Hi, I just landed. Are you here?”
“Yup. Outside. Um… still on.”
“You mean the blindfold’s still on?” I asked, knowing he couldn’t speak freely as Ashley (presumably) still didn’t know what was going on.
“Okay, stay on the phone with me, and keep it on until I tell you when.”
“Alright,” he replied. I could hear Ashley yelling at Aiden for making her wear the blindfold and I smiled.
“Does she know?”
“Nope. Not at all.”
“Awesome,” I remarked. I kept walking, picking up the pace a little. After going away for college and law school, I had come to know LAX very well. I came to the automatic doors and spotted the 2 of them. Aiden had his phone up to his ear and Ashley looked so funny with the blindfold on; he saw me and smiled. “Alright… take the blindfold off.”
I started walking a little slower and watched as Aiden pulled the piece of cloth away from Ashley’s eyes. She was staring right at me; her eyes went wide with surprise.
“Are you serious?!” she exclaimed loudly. I smiled widely and she immediately took off, running right towards me. She threw her arms around me when she reached me and jumped up, wrapping her legs around me as well.
“Surprise!” I said happily as I held her up. She didn’t say anything in response yet, though… she just held on to me for dear life. After a very long embrace, I felt her lips make brief contact with my neck as she got off, landing on her feet.
