Crazy People in Love – (Chapter: 3: It Gets the People Going!)

“Rise and shine, Davies!”  I hear my curtains being drawn open and immediately groan as the sunlight glows through my eyelids. Aiden is the devil. We’ve been best friends since we were five, but that doesn’t seem to stop him from bugging the crap out of me on a daily basis. A morning person, I am not.

“So Kevin’s been calling non-stop since this hit the stands this morning.” I crack open one of my eyes and see him waving a magazine around. The picture on the cover is really low quality, but I know it’s me. It’s always me. “You’ll seriously be lucky if he doesn’t kill you, Ash. He’s pissed.”

“What did I do this time?” I mumble, my face half covered with blankets.

He tosses the tabloid to me before walking into my kitchen. “Take a look.”

Ashley Davies Finally Coming Clean!  What?

“Cheerios or PopTart?” I ignore my friend as I continue looking over the cover.

In the picture, I sit looking solemn in a plastic chair. I open to the story and read through.

At last, Ashley Davies, rockstar extraordinaire, is ready to talk about her problem. No not her well known alcohol abuse or womanizing tendencies. A trusted source tells us that Davies has bitten the bullet and gone for help for her eating disorder! We all had our suspicions, but according to a close confidant, ‘Ashley is a troubled girl and really needs the help. I’m just happy she’s finally trying to get it’…

This has the Amazon lady’s name written all over it. It goes on for another page and a half, complete with a Q & A section with some barely qualified rehab “doctor” and links to an online poll about my “sickness”.  I have only one thought:  What the hell?!

“What the hell?!” Aiden stops rummaging through my cupboards and gives me a confused look.

“You’re right…” He turns to open my refrigerator. “Today is a bacon and eggs kind of day.” That’s why he’s my best friend.

After breakfast and ten ignored calls from my manager, Kevin, I decide it’s time to face the music.

“Thanks for the ride, Aid.” I say as we pull up in front of the office. I’m getting really nervous. I mean Kevin can be a nice enough guy, but between his insane temper and need to control everything I’m really not looking forward to this little visit.
