Cruise Control – (Chapter: Four)
It was finally Friday as Spencer lay down in the back of Madison’s car, shielding her eyes from the sun. She lay still as loud music pumped through the car. She tried not to complain as the headache she had got worse. She only watched as Madison drove and Chelsea danced around in the front seat. But she’d finally had enough.
“Turn it down!” She yelled, trying to outshout the music. The girls just kept nodding to the music. “Hey!” Spencer yelled again. Madison glanced at her in the rearview mirror.
“What?!” Madison shouted. Spencer rolled her eyes and sat up.
“Turn that shit down!” Spencer yelled again. Madison and Chelsea stared at her as they pulled up to school.
“Why are you yelling?” Chelsea asked. Spencer finally realized that the music was off. She laughed at herself.
“Never mind now.” Spencer said as they climbed out the car.
“Riiight.” Chelsea said, giving Spencer a weird look.
“Freak.” Madison said under her breath, smiling. Spencer pushed her in the shoulder.
“I heard that.” She said, chuckling. Madison frowned as she looked around the school.
“Where is everybody?” She asked. Spencer and Chelsea looked at each other and immediately burst out laughing. Madison looked confused.
“Are you really that dumb?” Chelsea asked, catching her breath.
“What?” Madison asked. Spencer laughed again.
“Madison, we’re four hours late. Where do you think everyone is?”
Madison shrugged. Chelsea smiled and sighed.
“In class you dumb ass.” Chelsea said, popping Madison on the head. Madison stopped as Spencer and Chelsea kept walking.
“I knew that!” she said, running to catch up with them.
Spencer got her tardy slip and went to her remaining classes. Her excuse for being late was a Doctor’s appointment when really the three girls had gone to an amusement park. Spencer smiled as she thought of the stuffed elephant sitting in the back of Madison’s trunk, which Chelsea had won for her. Spencer looked up as she felt a tap on her shoulder.
“Class is over, if you hadn’t noticed.” Ashley said, frowning as she looked down at Spencer. Spencer looked up to see students filing out of the class.
