Falling In Grace – (Chapter: I’ll Have A Double Please)
Stocking the fridges back up, I realise how damn hot it has been today. Even with Air conditioning the cold air from the fridges gave me relief for just a minute. Tucking the hair that had fallen out of my ponytail behind my ears, I get up from where I was squatting. As I pop up and turn around from between the fridges and the Bar, I spot the gorgeous blonde sitting there alone.
“Hey there. What can I get for you tonight?” I ask her. Sometimes I strike up amazing conversations with some of the patrons. I Have been working here for about 7 years. Being here that long I know just about everyone that frequents this pub. Well, The regulars anyway and she definitely was not a regular.
“ Uh make it a vodka. Double. On the rocks.” She replied. Wow. Someone must have had a rough day. Either that or loves the vodka.
“Coming right up.” I set out to make the drink. As I place it on the bar I decided to try my luck with her tonight. “So, I’ve been working here a long time and I’ve never seen you before. What brings ya here?” I decided to be straight out and ask.
“Well,” She took a gulp. There went half the drink. “ I came out today. To My Family. To everyone at once. Told them I was a lesbian. Disaster. Major bad timing.” She gulped the rest of her drink. She tapped the bar.
“Another?” I asked her. All she did was nod her head. Boy did I know where she was coming from. I myself came out 7 Years ago. I turn 25 this year. I came out to my mother and got kicked out, I ended up in this very bar. The Girl who owned the bar was 28 and she happened to be working that night. She gave me a room and even let me work here in exchange for living there rent free. Then it just so happened that we ended up being together. It was a ten year age gap but we didn’t see that. Just each other. About 4 years later we were very happy, running GRACE together. That was the name of the Pub. Named rightly so after my lover Grace Wilson. She was diagnosed with Cancer at age 34. We couldn’t believe it. She was smart. She set everything up in case anything happened. And that is how I now own GRACE. She passed six months after we found out.
