First and Last – (Chapter: The Beginning)

    Chapter 2: The Beginning

I suppose I should start at the beginning, because well…that’s where all stories usually need to start right? Otherwise you’ve just got this big jumbled mess of occurrences and you don’t know which goes where and to try and timeline them all out would just be absolutely insane and hard and just take up so much time and…I’m rambling. I’m sorry, that happens sometimes. I do hope you can bear with me when it does. Anyway, right so.

    The beginning.

My family and I had just moved to L.A. from small town Ohio. Everyone there always called us the ‘New Age Brady Bunch’. I never really understood why. I always asked my parents, but the only reasoning they ever gave me was because everyone was jealous. Being young and stupid I had no idea what being jealous meant, but since they were my parents I just went along with it.

My brothers, Glen and Clay, were 14 when we moved and I was 12, ready to start 7th grade at a brand new school knowing only two of the several hundred student body. It was a bit overwhelming to say the least. Especially since they were in the 8th grade and I was, again, only in 7th.

We moved in the middle of the summer so at least we didn’t have to worry about the awkwardness of starting the school year late. I mean, it was bad enough we didn’t know anyone to begin with, but if you started the school year late you’d automatically get rumors started about you. And they were always bad.

A few weeks after we’d gotten settled in my brothers and I started to explore the neighborhood. Unfortunately our parents had apparently chosen a home in the middle of Old Folks Central since there wasn’t a single person, besides us, that was under the age of 50. Way to go mom and dad, way to go.

Not to say Shady Acres wasn’t a nice neighborhood. It was filled with oak trees that were totally perfect for climbing and had tons of leaves. I think the best part was that with the leaf positioning, you could see out, but no one could see in. It was a two way mirror, but with foliage!
