First to break – (Chapter: Cryptic)

“So, did you leave anyone special behind in Ohio?” I enquired, not just for conversations sake but because I wanted to get clues as to what it was that Spencer went for.  Particularly the gender of what it was that she went for.  I relaxed further into the couch, waiting for her response.

“No, just the usual – family and friends, you know.”

I smiled sadly, and I could tell that thinking about them must have been hard for her.  Ohio was so far away, and life there must have been different.  I passed her the drink she had placed on the table in front of us.

“So no boyfriend, then?” I asked, finally getting to my point.

“No, no boyfriend,” she said very evenly, vexing me to the extreme.  Would she give me some clues already!? Jesus!

    “Girlfriend?” I winked.

“No,” she said flatly, taking a swig of the Jumping Jack Flash.  “Ohio isn’t exactly famous for its queer population.”

“LA is,” I pointed out, my head trying to figure out what she meant.  Did she not have a girlfriend because no one else in Ohio was gay, like her.  Or was she somewhat semi disgusted by the idea of gay people, and so was completely unimpressed when I suggested that she might be about as straight as a right angle.

“I got my heart broken once, and I guess I’ve been pretty guarded since,” she eventually concluded.

Ooh, now maybe I’m getting somewhere, I smiled inwardly, but externally I did that thing where I made myself look all concerned, like I knew where she was coming from and that I was there for her.  It wasn’t a complete act, I mean I was there for her, it’s just I was being a little selfish too.  Completely selfish, you liar! My head told me.  I tucked my feet up under me, and made myself more comfortable next to her.

“That sucks,” I frowned.  “Mind me asking what happened?”

“You can ask… but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll tell you,” she smirked, poking her tongue out at me.

“That’s lame!” I cried.  “I’d answer any questions you asked me!”  Apart from maybe a few, but she doesn’t need to know that.

“Okay… so what about you, and love?” she asked.  “Got a boyfriend, or a girlfriend, or whatever it is you’re into?”

    1. Ok, so i’m still breathing. Love it love it love it and you know it. I also love the word conundrum. If you would be so kind as to lend me your vocabulary, i’ll try to do it justice, then leave it in your mailbox wrapped in pretty paper. I’ll even clean it for you. Go on, be a gem. Oh, and i knew about the fuzzy hats for the record. I like the guys in the Tower better. Nicer uniforms.

    3. Oi! Rude much? It’s not going that slowly, trust me ;-) I’m currently writing more, because I have nothing better to do! Care to make a wager? To keep the story flowing realistically but to see how many posts it takes for one of us to go there? Obviously starting from now, as I would already have lost the bet before making it ;-)
