First to break – (Chapter: Music Team)
Nikki quickly found the right key amongst the massive bunch and soon the heavily insulated studio door swung open, ready for us to enter. I smiled and blindly rushed forward into the darkness, aiming for the huge mixing desk whose lights twinkled, informing me it was already on and waiting. Nik hit the light switch and my eyes quickly became used to the brightness again as she made her way over to me. She stood closer to me than a normal friend would, her arm pressed against mine as we both looked over the board. I booted up the hard drive that was on standby, and waited for the HD flat-screen to flicker into life.
“Isn’t she beautiful,” Nikki laughed, leaving my side in favour of the equipment cupboard, out of which she pulled a couple of microphones and stands before going through to one of the larger sound booths.
My eyes followed her as she made her way over to the enormous piano that the booth housed. She opened the lid and began to mic up the instrument, leaning over its sides to point the mic in the direction of its strings. I stared at the way her low slung jeans gripped her ass as she bent over, her girl boxers peeking out the top. She was boyish, but in a cute way that would make her look innocent if it wasn’t for the permanent twinkle she had in her eye.
“You wanna play this so I can get the levels right?” she called through to me, snapping me out of my daze.
“No, it’s all good,” I said, “I’ll get whoever’s playing to do that – I’m on recording duty today, remember?!”
Nikki chuckled and came back through to me, putting a few spare leads back into the cupboard.
“So who am I recording today?” I suddenly remembered to ask, realizing that I hadn’t properly read the email Nikki had sent me the night before.
“Oh, she’s amazing,” Nikki smiled, “a real talent.”
“Does this talent have a name?” I winked.
As if on cue the studio door suddenly opened and in stepped none other than the new girl, Spencer. I was taken aback, hoping she had just happened to stumble in by accident due to being new and lost. But no, she hadn’t just coincidentally arrived on my turf – she placed her bag down near the door and glided over to me in a way I noticed that only she was capable of doing. I remained speechless, not quite understanding the effect she had on me. I was surprised that a friend of Madison’s could have any other talent besides cheerleading, hair flicking and make-up applying.
