From a Whisper to a Scream – (Chapter: Listless Lushes)

“Yeah, that’s definitely Ashley.  Moody.  Lot’s of yelling.  Psychotic rants.  Oh, Oh, and she throws things.  Lot’s of things.  Weird things.  Things that normally wouldn’t be thrown,”  Kyla told Spencer while bulging her eyes for effect.

Spencer listened while she looked around the kitchen.  Her eyes lingered on the banana-hammock for a second, while she had an odd case of déjà vu.

        “Stupid banana-hammocks,” she muttered.

“I know.  Like, what is the point in them anyway.  I mean, nobody in this house even eats bananas, so why waste the effort of owning the banana-hammock?  Why not put the damn things in the refrigerator?”  Kyla agreed bitterly.

“I KNOW!  That’s what I’m saying!”  Spencer exclaimed a little too eagerly causing Kyla to laugh, but only temporarily.  Soon, her frown returned and she took another shot of Petrone.

“Um, where’s Aiden?  Shouldn’t you be spending time with him on his birthday instead of sitting in here bitching about your sister?” Spencer slurred.

“Shouldn’t you be sitting in here bitching about your boyfriend, ex-boyfriend, whatever, instead of rambling about Ashley?”  Kyla retorted.

Spencer opened her mouth angrily to respond, but stopped when she came up blank. Her expression softened and she took another shot.  So did Kyla.  Soon, they were silently pouring and drinking, both staring at the banana-hammock.

“You know, I didn’t come out here to steal her life,” Kyla mumbled to Spencer.

“I know.  I didn’t plan on breaking Kevin’s heart,” Spencer answered.

“I know.  Wait.  Did you?  I thought you were just on a break.”

“Yeah.  A break.  What does that mean anyway?  Besides, I thought you didn’t care what Ashley thought.”

“I don’t. What does that have to do with Kevin?  A break is like… a break.  It doesn’t mean that you’ve broken his heart,” Kyla answered.

“You’re avoiding the question.  Do you or don’t you care what she thinks?” Spencer demanded while raising her eyebrows and tilting her head.  She was opening and closing her eyes a lot because her vision was starting to get a little blurry.

“I don’t care, and I’m not the one avoiding the conversation.  Kevin—that was the conversation.”

“No it wasn’t.  You started with ‘Oh, I didn’t come here to steal her life’. Remember?”  Spencer asked while mocking Kyla’s earlier confession.

    9. This chapter was really funny. Especially Ashley comment about keeping people out her mom’s bed so they won’t catch STD’s. That was so funny. Kyla and Spencer bonding and staring at the banana hammock was funny, too. I’m loving this story.
