Chapter 3: Lost in Translation

When Spencer woke Saturday morning she headed immediately for the computer to see if Ashley had added her. She pounced from the bed, her breaths coming faster with every step toward the computer.

And there it was. ‘Ashley Davies has added you as a friend.’ Spencer finally released the breath she had taken when she logged in and let out a little squeal of excitement at the idea.

"Okay, I so have to play this cool. Don’t say anything you are going to regret Spencer, you don’t even know why you are doing this," Spencer said to herself, hoping it would somehow calm her.

She moved from the computer just as an instant message popped onto the screen.

Almost dissapointed, she realized it was from Aiden.

xAidenx: had fun last night.

Spencer sat and stared at the message, wondering if she should respond. But everywhere there was Aiden, it seemed Ashley followed. She plopped back down in front of the screen.

xSpencex: me too. Thanks for introducing me to some people here.

xAidenx: no prob. Plans tonight?

Spencer hesitated. She didn’t have any plans but she wasn’t really interested in getting too involved with Aiden. She didn’t want him to get the wrong idea.

xSpenceX: nothing really.

xAidenx: how about grey? Pick you up at 7?

Spencer knew she had to say no, or at least give him the full impression this was not a date.

xSpencex: I don’t know Aiden. I’m not really ready to get involved with anyone, and twice in two nights?

xAidenx: just to hang out I promise. Give you another opportunity to meet some people before school starts on Monday.

xSpencex: Alright, but I’ll meet you there.

xAidenx: k. c u then.

A grin crossed Spencer’s face. She let her head fall back onto the computer chair. She was going to get another chance to see Ashley.

Spencer started to feel stomach sick. She didn’t understand why she wanted to see and know this girl so bad. What was it about her that made Spencer so crazy inside. She wasn’t ready to face any of the realities, except for finding out more about Ashley.

(That night)

It took Spencer more than an hour to pick out an outfit for the evening, and even then she wasn’t happy with what she had to choose from. Even her favorite baby tee and the tightest jeans in her closest wouldn’t cut it she felt.
