Tears began to form in the corners of his eyes. He felt them slowly rolling down his face and into Spencer’s hair. He quickly wiped them away, not wanting her to know he was crying as well. It hurt him to see her hurting like this. His mind was racing with reasons why this was happening, but none of them added up.

            Aiden felt Spencer’s grip on him let up quite a bit. He looked down at her and noticed she was asleep. He picked her up in his arms and carried her up to her bedroom. He laid her down gently and covered her up. She stirred slightly as she got comfortable. It was nearly midnight. He had stayed with her all day, just sitting in the kitchen holding her. He sat down on the couch in the room and drifted off to sleep.

One month later

             Spencer sat at her desk at work, thinking about what she was going to make for dinner. Italian. I feel like eating lasagna. Hm. Maybe I’ll invite mom and dad over. That’s a thought. Good thoughts. I like good thoughts. Her thinking was interrupted by none other than, Aiden. He walked into her office and took a seat.

            ”Spence. What are you doing tonight?” he asked, his hands firmly planted on her desk.

            She shook her head. “I was going to cook and invite my parents over for dinner. Why? What’s up?” she said, interested in what he would say next.

            “Well, it’s Wednesday night poker night at James’ house. And I was wondering if you wanted to go with a bunch of us.” She looked at him and smiled.

            “Actually, that sounds amazing. I’d love to go. Who all did you invite?” She asked, putting her papers into their folders.

            He shrugged. “Kyla, Madison, Jeremy, Becca, Micah, Sarah and a few others. Just a bunch of us work folk. We may hit the bar on our way home. I just want you to come out with us and have some fun, it seems like you haven’t had much of that lately.” He replied, half smiling at her.

            She nodded. “You’re right, I think I’ve been wallowing, but I’m ready for a fun night out with all of you crazy people.”
