Love Love Love: A Series of One-Shots: Black Out

“Ashley, I don’t know why I let you make me watch these stupid shows with you.”

“Probably because you’re whipped and you’ll do anything I want,” she says with a smirk.

“You are infuriating sometimes, you know that?”

“But you still love me,” again with the smirk.

“Sometimes you act like a…,” I begin with a serious tone in my voice.

“Like a what?” she says, slightly worried.

    “Like a…a…,”

    “Like a what?!”

“Like a guy,” I wrinkle my nose in disgust.

She gently hits me in the arm and mumbles, “Don’t even.”

“I’m just kidding, baby.” I lean over and kiss her on the cheek, and then I rest my head on her shoulder.

We’re sitting on the couch at my house watching a stupid show about people who hunt ghosts or something. It’s really lame and I’m just flat out bored. And my boredom is everlasting due to a wonderful marathon of this fabulous show. I find entertainment in watching Ashley instead of watching the tv.

We don’t want to go out because it’s been thunder storming all night, and it’s supposed to get worse. I can hear the pounding rain as it hits the windows.

“This stuff is so fake. I don’t believe any of it,” I mention.

“No way.  This is all real.”

“Are you kidding me? I have those headphones on my iPod,” I refer to the headphones that some guy is using to listen to “ghost voices.” Ghost voices my ass. Why would ghosts want to talk to bunch of old white guys anyway? The windows in the living room all flash a bright white for a fraction of a second and then I hear the clap of thunder.

“Would you rather watch Project Runway?” she asks.

    “Yes actually I would.”

“Well too bad, cause it’s not on.”

    “You’re a jerk.”

She turns to face me and smiles, placing a soft kiss on my lips. “Spence, I’m just kidding. If your show was on we could totally watch it. And we really don’t have to watch this if you don’t want to. I’m getting kind of bored of it anyway.” Thank you!

At that, the lights flicker and then go out. The picture on the tv screen gets sucked into the middle of the screen like a black hole. It is suddenly pitch black, as if I’ve closed my eyes. Maybe I did close my eyes; I blink repeatedly. No, it really is dark in here…just checking. So we have a black out, probably because of the storm. As if on cue, the lighting lights up the windows again.
