Loving Annabelle, Alternate Ending Fan Fiction Contest

“Annabelle?” Collins small voice asked. She had been standing there watching Annabelle for a few minutes, allowing her time to have this moment before interrupting.

“Annabelle, I’m so sorry,” she said. Annabelle turned to look at her, a weak smile forming across her lips to show her gratitude for Collins compassion.

“Is there anything I can do to help?”

Annabelle wiped haphazardly to dry her eyes and quickly changed modes. “Yes, there is,” she said.

Picking up the stack of pictures off Simone’s desk, Annabelle walked over to Collins and shoved them into her arms.

“Take these and put them where no one will find them,” Annabelle said.

    “Why?”

“I don’t have time to explain right now. Just put them some place safe, please.” Her eyes were still watery when Collins looked into them and agreed to do this.

As soon as her hands were free, Annabelle quickly went around the room, searching for any of her clothes, personal items, anything she might have absentmindedly left behind after this morning. Collins, not sure if she should help, watched from the doorway as Annabelle started going around the room. Distracted by the sound of shoes on the steps, Collins left the doorway for a minute and looked down the hall. Her eyes widened as she saw Mother Emaculata making her way towards the room.

Adrenaline started to pump through her system and a lightning pace, and she ran to Annabelle, trying to warn her of Mother Emaculata’s approach. But Annabelle was too concerned about disposing of evidence that she didn’t heed Collins’ warning. Realizing the pictures were still in her hand, Collins quickly tucked them underneath her shirt and hugged her body, hoping they wouldn’t be noticed underneath her white uniform shirt.

“Miss Collins, may I ask why you are in this room?” Mother Emaculata asked. As she approached the door, she noticed Annabelle standing inside the doorway. Collins sighed, a little relieved that Mother Emaculata didn’t see Annabelle ransacking the room.

She watched as Annabelle and Mother Emaculata stare each other down, both women wondering about the other: Mother Emaculata wondering how innocent Annabelle really is in this situation, Annabelle wondering if she could justify doing physical harm to this woman for what she’d done.
