Lucky Me – (Chapter: 1- Coming Out)

Lucky me! It was my first day at Easton High and I had already lost my way, three times! And that was just to my locker… not to mention trying to find my homeroom/ first period! When I finally found the room I was glad to see my best friend, Spencer, in the class, too. She had saved me a seat and was ecstatically waving me over. I quickly went over to the seat and sat down in the chair she had saved.

“Hey, Spence!” I said to my best friend, “How ya been?”

“Hey, Kel!” she responded, “Eh, okay. It was a busy break!”

“Yeah. It sure was,” I responded, glancing around the room, “so far, see anyone interesting?”

“Nah, but it’s too early in the day to worry about that,” she cast off the question, “So let’s see your schedule.”

I looked through my bag, got out the sheet of paper with my schedule on it, and handed it to her. She compared mine to hers and when she looked up she was smiling.

“Looks like have the all same classes, even orchestra,” she said giving me back the piece of paper.

“How can we both have orchestra?!  You play violin and I play oboe!” I was surprised and confused.

“Well, in this high school the orchestra has both strings and winds. Just like the professional ones.”

“Oh! Okay.” I was still slightly confused but mostly got it.

Just then the bell rang, signaling the end of homeroom and the start of first period, which for us was AP Human Geography. The clock ticked by so slowly, I thought it would never end. But it finally did. I jumped up out of my seat and turned to Jess.

“So? We gonna hang out tonight?” I asked her.

“Yeah. I got something to tell you as well…,” she said.

                    “Oh? What?”

                    “You gotta wait for tonight.”

“Oh, okay,” I say, though I didn’t really want to wait.

I was getting ready to hang out with Kelly, both mentally and physically. I had something to tell her, something that would completely change our relationship.

Spencer was coming over soon and I wasn’t ready.  I was so stressed. I really wanted to know what she wanted to tell me.
