Lurking in the Shadows of the Light – (Chapter: 1 – 82)
Chapter 1
I stare down on the city beneath me. At the mixes of colors. At the cars passing by. At the people that look more like ants.
I take a moment to stand up from my crouching position. I look down at myself. I take in the baggy camouflage pants resting on my hips, the black tank top that covers up the black belt except for the buckle, the black combat boots, and the black gloves. I pull the black beanie snugger over my ears, adjust my sunglasses, and put my hands in my pockets.
I turn and glance around at the rooftop. I appreciate how dark it is up here with almost every light long past gone out. I can make out different shapes and different shades of grey, but little else.
I turn back to glance down at the city, just waiting. Then I hear it. The blaring of sirens trying to weave around traffic to get to the scene of another crime. I sigh almost inaudibly.
Another typical night in the city, and it is only just beginning. At least it’s a slow beginning. Just a simple car chase, if you can call that simple, which in this case I do.
I turn on the ledge and begin to walk along it. I don’t waste effort in watching where I’m going or in keeping my balance.
I just walk while continuing to stare down on the city, occasionally looking farther out. I take in the view and breathe in the polluted air. None of which phases me.
I make a sharp right and take that next step. I continue to walk along the ledge just continuing to watch. I do this all the way around the building until I am back where I started.
I stop and stand and wait. If someone were to look at me, they would only see a shadow. And if they were able to see my pale skin against the harsh black background they would blame it on the lights or their imagination. I wouldn’t blame them for it either.
Who would expect to see a 16-year-old girl dressed like a thief standing atop a tall, locked building that is so well locked up and guarded that some think they are hiding something? Well, not these people anyway. They’re too consumed in their own lives.

I like all your stuff so far. But I have to say you dropped the ball a little on this one. I got about halfway and can’t finish it. I liked the basic premise and I was willing to go along with the pregnancy thing. But I’m apparently the only one who doesn’t think it’s weird that everyone just goes with it… “Ashley I’m pregnant and I’ve never slept with a man. I believe you Spencer.” A doctor discovers a girl with bird like eggs who got pregnant from another girl and he just laughs it off? Spencer’s brother has been nothing but a dick but then he is suddenly a supportive brother? It might be because this is an older story and you have improved since then.
