Mature For My Age – (Chapter: Chapter 1: Some things never change)

    Chapter 1…

It was 3:00 in the morning. Spencer was lying on her side as gentle tears ran down the side of her face and sank into her pillow. Hands at the side of her head just between her and the pillow, eyes wide open, and tensed muscles, ready for what ever she might have to defend her self from.

    CRASH!! *GLASSES SHATTER*

    Spencer jumps at every sound.

There’s no way they’ll actually make it up stairs again…they’re too drunk. Too caught up in yelling. How could they possibly even make it up here? They can’t.

Spencer’s luck never seemed to hold and sure enough the second she began to calm her self down with such a thought…

*thud* “STOP IT AURTHUR!!” on the other side of Spencer’s bed room wall, her mom, Paula, had been thrown against her parents bed room door. “DAMN IT AURTHER I SAID STOP IT *THUD*” there seemed to be a lot of shuffling around before a door had opened. “See…you’ve woken Glen up, you inconsiderate ass!”  “You know what Paula I’m sooo sick of your bullshit!!!”Spencer’s door swung open and closed with in a matter of seconds. Spencer jumped up from her bed and ran to where Glen was trying to barricade the door. She threw her self into glens open and loving arms “Shhh its okay Spence…” “Gahh…do you think they’ll ever stop doing this?” Spencer’s voice was a whisper but merrily matched glens soft voice. “Iono Spence but we can’t think like that…it’ll be over soon enough and we can leave for the day tomorrow, okay?”  “You promise? We can get out…just get away? You and me?”  Spencer spoke into glens chest as she refused to let go at any time durring a night like this.  “I promise.” Glen spoke simply and guided his sister to the bed, tucked her in and lay down beside her, keeping her calm and safe.

    7:00 am

“Hey Spence…c’mon we gotta go before mom and dad wake up.” Spencer slowly opened her eyes to Glen’s face. “Mkay…what time did they stop?” Spencer rose and headed for her closet. “Doesn’t matter…I’ll be in the car just don’t wake mom up when you head down stairs…she passed out on the couch last night, and dad crashed at the kitchen table”

Glen left and closed the door behind him, while Spencer started to get dressed. She successfully got her pants on but as soon as she passed the mirror with nothing but a bra on, she cought the sight of her self in the corner of her eye and winced. She reached for a shirt she had laid out on her bed, but never broke contact with the mirror. She finally did look away when she managed to get the shirt on and made her way to the door, and down the stair case. She stopped at the sight of her mother’s bloody nose, and limp, resting, body, then resumed her mission, passing through the kitchen on her way out, creeping slowly past her slumbering father. Almost waking him when she had carelessly forgotten to watch her step and kick one of the few liquor bottles, broken, from the early mornings events. After pausing in her tracks and double checking to make sure the noise hadn’t woken up either of the ‘Sleeping beauties’ of the house hold. It hadn’t. Finally, Spencer made it out the front door and made a B line for Glens car.

    “So…where to?”
