Ch. 3

Ashley’s POV:

         I may have super human abilities, but I am still only human; meaning I’m prone to the same mistakes normal people make. Today was a classic example. I had done something very, very dangerous to myself. I had let myself get attached to Spencer Carlin. Now my so-called “death” will probably appear in the media. I’m known as “Elizabeth Johnson” though; an alias. But the government will figure it out if they monitor the regional news stations; the body of a female campus security guard missing after she was shot in the head- coupled with a possible picture of me. They’d know, and they’d come right here to get me. I wasn’t going to go to work tomorrow and announce that I hadn’t been shot- because my blood was all over the pavement. I was going to hide for a month before reappearing, saying that I was rescued by an anonymous good citizen. I didn’t want to have to start over again completely. Why? Because it’s possible that the government won’t find out, and… I want to still see her.

              Fear seizes my gut as I realize that I’m already getting attached to this girl. I hope it’s just a temporary infatuation; I can’t go on like this. It would destroy us both if I ever…loved her. Sooner or later they would find us and kill us. No, they would kill her. They would take me back. She would be killed off because they couldn’t risk the possibility of anyone finding out about their project. I can’t sleep tonight; I saw how she cried when she believed I was dead. She feels something for me too. We only really met today, but already I know there’s something between us. She’s smart, beautiful, understanding, and a total klutz. That’s what makes her so adorable. She wasn’t like those girls I often picked up as outlets for my needs. With her, it wasn’t about that. I needed to see her again; though I couldn’t reveal I was still alive right now. She would question- she would ask me how I survived without a visible wound. There’s no way I’m getting any sleep tonight anyway, so I might as well pay her a quiet little visit. Watch over her. I love having x ray vision.  I stepped out of my apartment, still completely clothed in black and with the mask still on. It was like one of those masks we had used at the facility. It had straps on the back so it was securely fitted on. I ran to her apartment; I was just a colorless blur on the way there. I climbed onto the stairs of the building next to hers. Room 312A… where is it… ah, there it is. Luckily, she was on this side and had a window open, facing me. I could see her already lying in bed. But she wasn’t asleep; my ears could pick up the soft sounds of her sniffling in bed. Poor girl. Was she still crying over me? Was she just as attached to me as I was to her?
