    She’d left the past behind her or so she thought. Now it was staring her in the face and all she could do was keep running.

    She went instead for the trays of food near the door.

    She could feel both their eyes on her back as she took a tray. She wasn’t going to ask which one was hers. She was sure if she took the wrong one Madison would be ready to point it out.

    Her tray had a huge burger and a side of fries. She took a bottle of Coke and made her way out of the living room and into the dining room.

    She wanted to eat alone.

    She sat her food down and took a seat. She took a bite from her french fry and that’s the last thing she remembered.

    “I really don’t know…” Spencer began as she glanced nervously at Ashley’s unconscious form.

    Madison had moved her paperwork into her bedroom and now Ashley was sprawled across the couch dead to the world.

    “Seriously, Spencer you know how she is. There’s no way she’d agree to this. She’d run away and it’d be another five years before we heard from her. Or we’d read her obituary.”

    Spencer knew Madison was right. But knowing it and liking it were two different things. She didn’t like that they’d had to resort to this. Not only would Ashley be pissed when she woke but she’d feel betrayed too.

    “I know. I know. What’d you find in her guitar case?” Spencer asked turning her gaze to Madison.

    She watched as Madison shrugged.

    “I didn’t go through it. I just found her stash and didn’t look at anything else. But there seemed to be a lot of stuff in there. I don’t know what she was thinking standing out in the rain for God knows how long! I know she didn’t call me right away either. Who knows what could have happened to her if she hadn’t called.”

    Spencer grimaced thinking about that.

    Ashley wasn’t in a state of mind to think clearly.

    Anything could have happened.

    “I told you it was a good thing to keep your old cell phone,” Spencer couldn’t help but say.

    Madison rolled her eyes.

    “Always have to be right don’t you?”

    “That’s because I always am, Maddie. Right that is,” she said smiling at Madison.

    Madison mock frowned before she returned the smile.
