Nothing Gold Can Stay – (Chapter: One- Shout, Shout, Let It All Out)
I inhale deeply, knowing I need to check my anger before I cause too much of a scene. My voice is now low, my expression stern as I try to keep a level tone. I’ve had enough. Everyone has a breaking point from which they can’t return, and I have reached mine, “You know what? I’m not going to ask you again not to use words like gay and fag around me because I have already done that. I am not going to remind you that I am gay and that I am not dumb or any of those other things you use those words to mean. And I am not going to chastise you for being so ignorant and blind you can’t even see what an ass you have become.”
I exhale, watching her eyes look away as she tried to think of anything to throw back in my face, “Ashley, you know I am just kidding when I-”
“Don’t.” I cut her off, waving my hand in the air, “I am sick of dealing with this shit with you. If there was something you specifically asked me to not do, because it offended you, guess what I would do? I wouldn’t fucking do it! You know why? Because I KNOW how blatantly disrespectful that would be to my friend.” I could feel the stares of the people around us, and hear the soft murmurs of them whispering to each other.
“Just calm down! Your not perfect either!” Was her response, although it was a weak one at that.
“You can’t even manage a fucking apology!?” I shout, rising to my feet because I am far too disgusted by her to stand being around her anymore. I feel my other friend, Megan, stand up behind me, and it is a comfort to know someone is backing me up. Of course it is probably just because I know she really doesn’t like Madison and is more than happy for an opportunity to bad mouth her without me getting upset. To think I defended that bitch is still a mystery to me.
“Fuck you!” Madison shouts from her still seated position as I begin to walk away.
I spin around with such force that I can see her regret her actions as she flinches audibly. “Fuck me?” I point at my chest, brows lifting in a challenging pose.
