When Spencer and Ashley arrived at Ashley’s house they were surprised to find Ashley’s mother home for once. As Spencer and Ashley made their way through the front door and to the stairs they were stopped by Ashley’s mother.

"Ashley, would you please come sit down. We have some news."

Ashley looked at Spencer and then at her mother who was sitting with her boyfriend and his daugter, "what is it?" Ashley walked to the couch, Spencer following her close behind. Both of them sat down.

"Honey, we’re getting married!" Ashley’s mother seemed very excited about this engagement for some reason.

Ashley looked at the man’s daughter.  She short brown hair with a red tint to it.  She dressed athletic, and she looked bored.

"Great, I’m happy for you. Spence, let’s go." Ashley tried to get up and escape her future step-father and sister.

"Please take Megan with you.  She’ll be moving in with us next week, so if its not too much trouble will you show her around?"

Ashley was annoyed by the request, this was supposed to be her and Spencer’s time. Now they had a third wheel.

"Fine, come on." Ashley motioned with her left hand. The girl stood up and walked to Spencer and Ashley, and she didn’t seem too happy.

The girl followed them to Ashley’s room.  Spencer went straight to the bed, laying on her stomach and trying to start her homework. Ashley went to her stereo to turn on some music and then went to her computer. Megan took a seat on Ashley’s couch.

"As I take it you’re not too thrilled about this marriage any more than I am?" Ashley asked Megan.

"Not at all. My dad is only doing it because he believes that I need a strong female figure in my life. You know, someone I can call ‘mom’."

I’m sure that my mom’s doing it for the same reason.  She believes that if I would have a strong father-figure that my sexual identity issues would all disappear."

"You’re gay?" Megan seemed amused by Ashley’s comment.

"Not into labels. But yes, I do like girls.  And that girl laying on the bed over there, that’s Spencer.  She’s my girlfriend."

Spencer gave a wave with her left hand as she was writing with her right. And then Megan began to laugh to herself, "This is beyond ironic."
