    i hate awkward

    Ashley had been working for me for 9 days. For the first time in 9 days I was walking into work in a bad mood. I loved my job, I loved helping people, and with the addition of a certain brunette I now loved the view, but one thing I have always hated in the office was awkwardness. And today was going to be awkward. I was melting a hole in my watch with my eyes, 7:56. Kyla was due in by 8:00 and she was never late. I didn’t even pretend to do work; I was waiting for her arrival. When she finally passed through the door I immediately paged her through the intercom.

     

    “Kyla I need to speak with you. Now.”

     

    “Ok Spence, one sec” It was less than a minute for her to take the short walk, but it felt like an eternity.

     

    “So what’s up doc?” she grinned and took a seat next to my desk

     

    “I don’t want this to be weird. It feels kind of weird.”

     

    “I really don’t know what’s going on Spence?” she looked confused, kind of like I probably did after I heard her tell Ashley I was straight.

     

    “I don’t want to have to do this but-”

     

    “Oh.My.God. Are you going to fire me? If it’s about those post-its I took im sorry I really didn’t think it was a big deal”

     

    “No. What? Never mind, Kyla I know that I’m your boss and all but I would consider us friends. Do you?”

     

    “Yes, of course”

     

    “You were really there for me last year when Katie and I broke up; I mean you even went to my nephew’s birthday party last month”

     

    “Yup we are friends, I feel like there is something you want to ask me Spence”

     

    “Why would you tell Ashley I’m straight?”

     

    “I don’t know what you’re talking about”

     

    “Don’t lie; for starters you’re an awful liar you can’t even look in the general region of my face never mind my eyes. And I heard you myself”

     

    “Shit. I’m sorry Spence”

     

    “Why did you do it?”

     

    “Because..Because you are my friend”

     

    “Kyla that doesn’t even make sense. A friend would have set me up with your very hot sister a long time ago. A friend defiantly would not have lied about my sexual orientation to before mentioned hot sister.”
