    Chapter 3

    Spencer’s POV

“Hello?” Joey said on the other end of the phone.

    “Hey J…” I whispered, sniffling a little.

“Spence, what’s wrong?” he asked worriedly.

“They’re sending me away Joey” I said, choking up again. I never cried in front of anyone, even Joey after all the years we’ve known each other.

“Sending you away? What do you mea…you know what I’m coming over” he said suddenly and before I could reply, he already hung up the phone. I just put the phone on the floor beside me and leaned back against my closet door, hugging my knees to my chest.

It took him about 15 minutes to get to my house, I didn’t even know he was here until he burst through my room, looking around frantically.

“Right here” I said softly making him instantly turn his head and look down on me.

“Spence, babe what’s wrong?” he asked softly, sitting down next to me. I instantly wrapped my hand around his arm and put my head on his shoulder.

“Okay…well…” I started, taking a deep breath. “My dad and Cindy are sending me away to some place out of town, somewhere for people with anger problems and just problems in general. It’s called ‘The Place In Between’. Don’t ask me why. I’m guessing since we don’t fit into the world around us right now, we go there until we get better or whatever the hell that means. I just, I don’t fucking get it Joey!” I yell, standing up and facing him. “I’ve been angry for as long as I can remember and now my dad is sending me away because he “doesn’t know what to do with me”!” I yell again, shaking with anger.

“Spencer, calm down. You need to tell me why? Why are you so angry? Why is it making your dad send you away?” he asked me softly, approaching me slowly, putting a hand on my shoulder. I took a deep calming breath and looked him in the eyes. It’s now or never.

“It started when I was 8…and it hasn‘t stopped…” I said, looking down and closing my eyes trying to stop the tears that are already threatening to fall.

“What started when you were 8? What are you talking about Spence?” he asked, pushing me to tell him. I lifted my head up and looked at him once again, my eyes filled with tears.

“Cindy started molesting me when I was 8 and its been happening ever since. That’s why I’m so fucking angry all of the time and my dad can’t see any of it!”

To say he looked shocked would be an understatement. He looked shocked, then confused, then sad, then angry all in a matter of seconds.

“What?!?” he yelled, turning around and yanking my door open.

“Where are you going?!” I asked frantically making my way towards him grabbing his arm and keeping him from leaving.

“I’m gonna go say something! You shouldn’t be sent away for something that bitch is doing to you!” he yelled. I’ve never seen him so angry.

“J, please…just leave it. I kind of want to leave. Then she won’t be able to do this to me anymore and maybe I won’t be so angry all of the time…The only reason why I‘m so pissed at being sent away is because they‘re taking me away from you. You‘re by best friend J, I can‘t get through this life without you” I said dejectedly, looking him in the eyes pleading with him to leave it alone.

“I’m not going anywhere Spence. They could send you all the way across America and I will visit you as much as I could. You will always be my best friend, and I will always be here for you” he said softly. He took a deep breath and put his arms around me, hugging me close to him and hugging me tight. And that’s when I started crying. I crying into his chest and he just held me as I let it out. It felt good to have someone there that didn’t judge me or put me down. And it sure as hell felt good to finally let him know what was going on. And tomorrow…is when my life changes. Hopefully for the better.
