Since Birth – (Chapter: 7: The Talk)
PREVIOUSLY:
ASHLEY’S P.O.V.
Ok we’re kissing, we’re kissing, and it’s quite good might I add. Then…
Paula: “Spencer do you want…” we jump and Paula stands there in the doorway staring at us. Maybe if we don’t move, or say anything, she’ll forget we’re here. She’s still standing there. I thought Spencer locked the door.

ASHLEY’S P.O.V.
The next thing I know, we’re both in the living room on the couch, with my mom, and hers sitting across from us. I guess were having a…staring contest? Paula finally speaks.
Paula: “Well…I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised about this, I mean after all…we did give you baths together when you were younger.”
Christine: “Are we okay with this?” she says looking at Paula. Hello! I’m sitting right here!!!!!!
Paula: “I don’t know, I’m a bit…discombobulated to say the least.”
Christine: “Where should we start?”
Paula: “I don’t know.” My mom and Paula turn their attention back to us again. “How did it make you feel?” she asked hesitantly. Oh God, it made me feel so-
Spencer: “Mom, it’s not what you think. She was helping me practice.” she said matter-of-factly. “The kiss meant nothing.” she said simply, like I wasn’t even there.
It felt like my heart was glass, and someone threw it on the floor, smashing it into a million pieces. Spencer broke my heart.
Christine: “Practice?” she looked at me confused.
Paula: “Practice for what?”
Spencer: “For when Timmy kisses me.” God, how can she be so comfortable with this whole situation. It’s killing me not to squirm in my seat.
Paula: “Who’s Timmy, and…when is he kissing you?”
Spencer: “A cute boy that I like, and I don’t know when, that’s why I was practicing.” She said in a DUH! Tone.
Christine: “Well, I guess it’s better than your arm.” Paula stifles a laugh, while I’m still very uncomfortable, not to mention heartbroken. Notice I still haven’t said anything yet.
Paula: “I haven’t said you could date yet.”
Spencer: “Yes you did.” she simply said.
Paula: “No I-” Spencer cut her off.
Spencer: “We were walking around in a store and I said, “Oh that boy is so cute, I wish he could be my boyfriend.” then you said, and I quote, “Not until you’re a teenager.” well, I turn thirteen next Wednesday.”
Christine: “Isn’t it funny how they can remember stuff about boys, or shopping, or whatever it is they’re interested in, but they can never remember to do their chores.” Paula and Christine laughed. I don’t know what she’s talking about, I’ve never remembered anything about a boy. Spencer rolled her eyes at them and looked at me.
Paula: “When I said teenager, I didn’t mean thirteen. It’s not old enough.”
Spencer: “Mom, you promised! Are you unaware of the actual word “teen” when you say thirteen? You said I could!” Calm it down there sparky. I’m just sitting here, watching the whole thing.
Paula: “Fine.” She sighed.
Christine: “I guess it’s about time we had that talk.” she said looking at Paula. OH GOD NO!!!!!! Please don’t!!! I beg of you!!!
Ashley: “Um…no please? I have health class.” I stand up.
Christine: “Wow, she talks.” I glare at her. “Sorry hun, but you’re staying to listen, because we’re only going to go over this one time.” she says pushing me back down on the couch. Why? I already know most of it, I mean, I go to school…people talk.
So, Spence and I were forced to sit through the torture of “the talk” this is where I finally realize…I will never like boys. I am completely gay…for Spencer. So…wait, does that still make me gay? If I only like one girl? I don’t know, but what I do know is that…I love her.
That information from “the talk” has scarred me, and I will never gain back that part of my mind that was once somewhat innocent. Yes I said somewhat. Don’t look at me like that. I was never fully innocent to begin with, hence the “warm feeling” from kissing the blond next to me.
