    Swoosh – (Chapter: Chapter 6)

Spencer had been outside for hours, practicing her free-throws, and thinking about Ashley. It had been a week since the kiss and Spencer had avoided Ashley as best as she could. She couldn’t deal with the situation. It was true that she had feelings for Ashley as well, but she was also scared because of it. She had lied when she said that the break-up with Caitlyn wasn’t a big deal. In truth it was a huge deal.

When Spencer found out about Caitlyn, she was sure she was in love with her. After the news was broken to Spencer, so was she. With Aiden gone on a European adventure with his parents over the summer, Spencer was left with no one to console her, consumed in her own miserable thoughts. When she had confronted Caitlyn about it, the girl did nothing to deny it, only apologized multiple times, saying it was a mistake. But none of it mattered at that point. All Spencer could think about was Caitlyn with Erica, and she knew that it would never be the same.

Spencer had always been good at basketball, but she had spent the past summer perfecting her game, working on every element. It was the only thing that seemed to keep her sane. She used it as a way to work through all of her conflicting emotions. She also ran to do the same thing. When Aiden finally returned, she had become so athletically sound that he stood no chance against her. Her game was perfection, but it was also a memory of a very difficult time for her.

Caitlyn was the first girl she ever loved and the first one she slept with as well. For Spencer, it was a very special thing for her to share herself with another. She was so blind to what their relationship was – a lie. So that’s why she decided that she was done with girls and relationships. She wasn’t sure she could give someone her trust like that again and then watch as everything falls apart.

She shot another free-throw and watched the backspin as it flew through the net. She felt that her feelings for Ashley were happening way too fast. Still, she couldn’t deny them and, try as she might, she couldn’t get her out of her head. But the incident that happened over the summer held her back from making any moves on Ashley. Her heart wasn’t ready for anyone right now, and Spencer wasn’t quite sure if it ever would be.
