That Girl. – (Chapter: Will She Answer?)

The next morning was gloomy to say the least.  The rain poured down outside as the three sat in silence.  Ashley was praying that Sam would at least talk to Taylor.  Spencer was praying that it was still the right number.  Taylor didn’t know what to think.  She knew what she had to do today, but she didn’t know if she was ready.

"So, are you going to call?"  Ashley asked breaking the silence as the thunder boomed outside.

"If this storm is any indication of how it might go, I’d rather not."  Taylor said trying to lighten the mood.

"Look, the same thing is going to happen today, tomorrow, or next week.  You have to try."  Spencer said sipping her coffee.

"I know."  Taylor said getting up from the table.  "I’m calling from my room."

Spencer and Ashley just sat there looking at each other.

"This could be bad."  Ashley said.

"But, it could be good too."  Spencer said trying to be positive.

"I sure hope so babe."  Ashley said holding Spencer’s hand.

Taylor sat in her room nervously playing with that piece of paper.  She looked at that picture.  If anything, they should at least be able to have a civil conversation.  It had been a few years since they’d spoken, and Taylor was praying that Sam still wanted to talk to her.  She had to tell her how she felt, but she was scared of how Sam would react.  So, what is Sam loved her too?  What would that do?  They were both sixteen, and Sam lived on the other side of the country.  She wasn’t going to be moving back anytime soon.  Taylor began to wonder if calling her was a good idea at all.  But, I guess wondering what if the rest of her life really isn’t that good of a thing to have to deal with.  So, she picked up the phone and the piece of paper.  Here goes nothing she thought as she dialed.  The radio played in the background as the rings of the phone taunted her with hope, fear, but mostly love.

    Hand out the window
    Floating on air
Just a flip of the wrist
And I am waving you goodbye

    Drive past the lifeguard stand
Where I sit around waiting for you to remember
    As I drive
