The College Life – (Chapter: Chapter 21: Hold Me Tight)

I fell asleep fairly quickly that night; I think it was the alcohol catching up to me. I woke up feeling much more refreshed than I felt when I woke up yesterday. It was nearly noon and I see Kyla’s not in her bed. Again. But is anyone really surprised about that? That poor girl is so wrapped around Aiden’s finger that it’s just sad to see. I hope I never get to be like that with Ashley.

Oh shit, I forgot about her calling me yesterday. I instantly sit up in my bed and yank my phone off of my desk that thankfully is so close to my bed that they’re nearly bolted together. I search through my phone for her number and press send as soon as I can, thinking the sooner I call her the better it will be and the less angry she’ll be at me for not calling her back. I know I hate it when people never call me back and from what I’ve learned about Ashley I’m pretty sure she’s the same way.

I hear the phone connect and I hear three rings and I begin to think I’m going to have to settle with leaving a message, but on the fourth ring I hear her pick up.

“Hello.” She answers in a groggy voice. I’m not surprised; she never wakes up before noon.

“Hey, did I wake you?” I ask, already knowing the answer.

“No, you didn’t. It’s fine.” I can hear her shifting in her bed and I know she’s lying. I smile though because I love hearing her morning voice, it’s scratchier than it usually is and it’s a little sexier, if that’s even possible.

“Sure sure, whatever you say Ash.” I say sitting up in my bed. “Should I let you go back to bed? I feel bad for waking you.”

“No, seriously Spence it’s fine.” She sounds a little more awake this time and I can tell she’s sitting up as well. “So where were you yesterday?”

“Yeah, sorry about that; I was studying at the coffee house down the street and someone was helping me study and I didn’t want to be rude.” I don’t figure now is a good time to start a lying streak. Note to all you kids out there, lying gets you nowhere and it only makes it worse in the end because it always ends up as one lie upon another.
