The New Guy – (Chapter: Chapter Two)
He was a gentleman, I’d give him that. When we got to his truck he opened the passenger door for me and shut it after I got in. Then he held open the school entrance door for some old lady so that she could walk through.
“Shouldn’t I be the one driving? I mean I am supposed to be the ‘tour guide’.” I said as we pulled out of the parking lot.
He chuckled. I had to admit I kind of liked his laugh. It was rough. Damnit Ashley no! “Well actually Ashley I don’t need a tour guide. I already know my way around. I’ve been here a couple of weeks; I just decided to wait to start school.” I glared at him. I see so he just thought he was going to be sly and get me to go out without him actually going out with me. Well sorry to burst your bubble buddy but I’m taken, by my girlfriend. Which is where I should be now. I sighed silently. Can I slap myself now? “The only reason I asked was because I didn’t want to have to explain to my dad about getting into a fight on my first day of school. The guys in that class didn’t seem too pleased with me did they?” I shook my head. “Well you seemed to be the only girl not interested in me, may I ask why that is?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know. You seem like a cool guy.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Just cool? Hmm I always thought handsome, sexy, or beautiful would be better adjectives for me.” I watched as he suppressed his grin, hinting at my slip up earlier.
I felt my cheeks get hot. “You know you’re pretty cocky Carlin,” I said in a matter of fact tone.
He grinned. “No ma’am just slightly conceited.”
I couldn’t help but to smile and shake my head. “I’m gay.”
“And I’m a leap year baby.” I laughed and smacked his arm.
“I’m serious Spencer!”
He smiled at me. “That’s really cool Ash.” What? Okay this boy was really confusing me. He asks me out but turns out that he doesn’t wanna go out with me; and then likes the fact that I’m gay. Wow I think I just found my new best friend. I smirked. “Something must be interesting.” I nodded staring at him. “May I ask what?”
I paused. “You’re different.”
He gave me a questioning look. “Is that a bad thing or good?”
I smiled. “It’s good.”
“Well that’s super,” he said with a chuckle. “Anyhow would you mind telling me where you live I’ve got to get home soon?” I nodded and gave him directions to my house. I watched and waited for his reaction as we pulled into my driveway. Which was just a simple. “You have a nice house Ash.” I furrowed my eyebrows together. That wasn’t the normal reaction I got when people saw my house. It was usually more of an ‘Oh my god Ashley this is where you live?!’ or ‘Holy crap Davies this is your house?!’ One of the privileges of being a rock star’s daughter, but for some reason he wasn’t fazed by it. This stumped me.
He got out and opened my door for me to get out. Again with the gentleman thing. I made a mental note that in the near future his girlfriend was going to be spoiled rotten. He even walked me to my door to make sure I was safely inside before leaving. Spencer Carlin was different there was no doubt about that.
