Spencer really didn’t have to try hard at her tryouts. They had basically already named her new co-captain, although she was sure that many other girls on the team were dying for that position. She had sat through the first half of her day, bored out of her mind. She didn’t know anyone at this school yet. Spencer was relieved when lunch time finally rolled around.

Stepping into the quad, Spencer looked around for her brother. She spotted him, but he was sitting with a lot of guys, which she assumed was the basketball team. Sighing, she found an empty table and sat down. Her stomach was growling, but she didn’t trust their cafeteria food here. She looked at her watch and waited for the lunch break hour to be over.

“Hey! Feeling lonely?” Spencer looked up to see Carmen standing over her, smiling.

“Maybe.” Spencer said, laughing as she looked at the girl who was by Carmen’s side.

“Well, I guess we’ll make you un-lonely by sitting with you.” Carmen smiled as her and the other girl sat down. “By the way, this is Chelsea.” She said as she threw her arm around Chelsea’s neck.

“If you don’t get off of me, I know something.” Chelsea said, laughing as she pushed Carmen’s arm off.

“What do you know?” Carmen said, which made Spencer chuckle a little. Chelsea looked at her and laughed also.

“What’s so funny?” Chelsea asked. Spencer shook her head and pointed at the two of them.

“You two.” Spencer said as she looked past both Chelsea and Carmen’s heads. Ashley and Madison were heading towards them. “Hey…What’s up?” Spencer asked as they stopped beside her.

“Nothing.” Ashley said as she gave the other two girls a weird look, but smiled anyway.

“Why are you sitting with them?” Madison asked, crossing her arms as if she felt uncomfortable. Carmen and Chelsea looked at each other but didn’t say anything.

“Why wouldn’t I?” Spencer asked, shrugging her shoulders. I wonder what’s so wrong with them.

“Well, because every one on the team who has ‘captain’ in their title, usually goes out to lunch together.” Madison said, with a ‘duh’ look on her face.
