    Victims, Aren’t We All? – (Chapter: Murder)

    Chapter 1: Murder

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    One Year Earlier
    Blood was splattered across every wall in the small apartment as Police detectives looked around the scene. The sound of an Ambulance siren could be heard through the smashed windows. Footsteps pounded their way up the stairs and soon the door to apartment 12E was being roughly opened as Paramedics made their presence known. One of the officers pointed to the victim lying on the floor whimpering in pain. "Jesus Christ!" the lead medic mumbled to himself as he took in the whole situation.
    With a couple long strides he was there kneeling down next to the blond, although her long tresses were now an entangled mass of bloodied hair. Taking a deep breath he surveyed the victim, slash and stab wounds were evident on her body, too many to count,"I need vitals. Now!" he barked the order to his partner. Taking out his pocket light he started to lift an eye lid to access brain damage when a hand gripped his wrist. Looking down at the victim, his eyes meeting with beautiful blue ones, "Ash…Ashley..please..wh-where?" her voice was wheezy, and she was having trouble breathing as she asked the small question. Still she kept her eyes on him, her grip tightened on his wrist; she needed an answer.
    Looking around he tried searching for the other victim but none was accounted. Then he remembered the scene outside, the young woman on the glass covered ground. By the looks of things she had been thrown out the large circular apartment window. He’d caught a glimpse before the white sheet covered her. That woman must’ve been Ashley. Giving the blond his best plastic smile, "She’s safe now." he soothed.
    Her grip lessoned as relief showed evident on her face, she let her head fall back on the wood paneling, unconsciousness taking over. "Her heart beat is erratic, she’s lost a lot of blood. We’ve gotta move her, if she has any chance of surviving." the next paramedic beside him said. Shaking his head ‘yes’ they started making preparations to move her.
    "People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can’t rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right."
