CHAPTER EIGHT

            I hadn’t seen or spoken to Spencer in two weeks.  I spent most of my free time with Jessica at USC, telling her that I was starting to feel bad about having sex while Spencer was around all the time.  It seemed like a logical excuse since Jessica did have a dorm room all to herself.  I only went back to my dorm to get clothes occasionally, and even then, I only went when I was certain Spencer was in class.

            Staying with Jessica solved the major problem of seeing Spencer on my free time, but there was still the creative writing class that I had to attend, but I quickly found out that Spencer made that decision easy for me.  She dropped the class that Monday and I hadn’t seen her since she rushed into the class for the professor to sign her withdrawal sheet and rushed back out.  She didn’t even glance my way.  I watched her leave, stunned, that she would go out of her way to drop a class just to not be around me.  Sure, I was avoiding her, but dropping a class would screw up her semester and that let me know that I had hurt her more than I thought.

            “Sooo, how’s Spencer?” Jessica asked, one afternoon as she watched me pluck at my guitar strings.

            I shrugged my shoulders, keeping my focus my chords for ‘All I Wanted’.  This was the last thing I wanted to talk about right now.

            “I mean, she must be missing her roommate by now,” Jessica continued, half talking to herself, not realizing my dire need to not discuss this.  

            “Think of me when you’re out, when you’re out there…,” I mumbled, ignoring Jessica.

            “Or maybe something happened with Taylor.  That girl doesn’t seem very nice.”

            “I’ll beg you nice from my knees…”

            “I wonder what she sees in her.”

            “And when the world treats you way too fairly…”

            “Well…I’ve never met her so, maybe I shouldn’t judge her.  Maybe they are just different.”

            “It’s a shame I’m a dream…”

            “She is pretty, no doubt about that.”

            “All I wanted was you…”

            “What do you think Ash?”
