You Can Put The Blame On Me – (Chapter: And we aint did nothin that we aint supposed to do, whoa, baby girl you know I be home, keep me on the ringtone shawty whoa.)
She looked over at me, but I didn’t look away from the ceiling. “I feel like I got hit by a car.” She said to me, and I laughed and shifted again. “Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it. Right now your back is just trying to figure out why you want it to be straight today.”
I nodded and smiled at her personification of my back. “Did you take your medicine yet?”
“No, I wanted to wake up first.” She slowly began to sit up and I could tell that she was still hurting.
“I’ll get it.” I said, darting out of my position and walking into the kitchen. I took one of the pain capsules from its container and grabbed two bottles of cold water before going back into the living room and handing them to her. I sat on the floor next to her and watched as she took the pills. I leaned against the couch behind me.
“So” She began abruptly. “I just realized that we know nothing about each other. So we’re going to play an endless game of 21 questions.” I laughed at the sudden outburst. “Do you have any siblings?”
“I have two brothers. One of them is adopted, but I love him just the same.” I paused to think. “Are you originally from Georgia?”
“Nope, I was born in New York, raised in California, moved to Florida and then to Georgia. What is the most illegal thing you have ever done?”
“Umm, that would have to be the time I got drunk and skinny dipped in my neighbor’s pool before streaking the neighborhood.” We both laughed as my cheeks flooded with color. A question struck my mind as if a flickering light bulb above my head had just been better fastened in. “I have a good one. If the gun was loaded, would you have had the heart to shoot me?”
She looked at me, eyes scanning my body, color leaving her face. “Not a chance. And even if I did have the heart to, I wouldn’t. You’re way too pretty to shoot, or harm in any way for that matter.” The color came back swiftly as a blush became apparent.
I looked at her and smiled and fought the urge to blush. “You’re painkillers are clearly kicking in.” I said slightly laughing and lightly poking her arm.
She softened her voice and her eyes. “I wasn’t on painkillers last night and I thought the same thing. They just gave me the courage to say it.”
I sat shocked for moments on end. I stayed silent. I just gazed at her eyes. This couldn’t be happening. “Oh hey, want to play a video game? I have Guitar Hero three and I have almost all of the Grand Theft Auto’s. Along with some Tony Hawk games.”
I did anything I could to avoid a situation like that for the rest of the day. We played video games and watched boring television. We decided to watch a movie before I went to pick up Max. I sat on the couch next to Ashley and began watching. She began drifting, drifting. Her head fell onto my shoulder and I hadn’t the heart to move it. I pulled the throw blanket over us and tried my hardest to concentrate on the movie.
