    One Saturday Morning

I have no idea how long I’ve been twirling this pen between my fingers. I’ve been lost in a trance as I’ve stared at my wife from across the kitchen. She volunteered to wash the dishes right after breakfast as I try to finish the work I’ve brought home. I looked down at the table in front of me, scattered documents without even a drop of ink, this is not how I wanted to spend our Saturday morning.

I looked back towards the sink, the sun shining through the window made her skin glisten so naturally. Her strong, yet delicate hands trying to wash the grease off the pans. My eyes worked their way up her arms, how I love her toned arms! Wisps of blonde hair surrounded her face as they slowly fell off the bun on her head. I smiled to myself and felt butterflies in my stomach, I still can’t believe I get to be the one to come home to this woman. I must have been intently studying every inch of her body as I didn’t even notice her turn around.

“You like what you see?” she said.

I chuckled, “what’s not to like?”

“I don’t see much work getting done over there. You may not be able to make it out with us tonight if you don’t finish.”

“But Stef…” I quipped, “I’m so distracted, it’s your fault you know.”

“Ha! Don’t try to smooth talk me lady, you’re the one who has a deadline for Monday.”

She was right. I grunted, and forced myself to look back at the neglected paperwork. This is what I get for wanting to be principal; be careful what you wish for. After what seemed like forever, I was able to get through a page.

The soft jazz emitting from the radio filled the room. My eyes darted back to my wife, as her hips slowly swayed to the music. Is she taunting me? As if on cue, she looked back and winked, never halting the sway of her hips. I quietly rose up from the breakfast nook, and made my way to her. I wrapped my right arm around her waist and slowly caressed her left arm with the other. She hummed softly to the music as our bodies began to move as one.
