Chapter 98

Early in the morning on the big day:

Bette woke up early, at 6. Tina was still asleep. She carefully got out of bed and made her way into the kitchen. She silently made coffee and pancakes, she had a few problems with the pancakes, but finally she got the hang of it. Yesterday she had bought a single red rose and hid it in the cabinet next to the sink. She took out one of their platters and placed the food on it. She also wrote a little note, which simply said “Tee, I love you.” She lays the rose on top of it, and then she carries it back into the bedroom, where Tina is still asleep. She set the platter down on the night stand and takes a seat next to Tina. She bends down and kisses her softly on the cheek. Tina stirs a little. Bette moves her hand up to Tina’s face and softly strokes it. She slowly opens her eyes. Bette smiles down at her.

“Hey, baby.” Bette says and leans down and kisses her once more.

“Mmmorning.” Tina replies tiredly.

“I made breakfast for you.” Bette says and smiles proudly. “Sit up.” She adds.

“You made me breakfast?” Tina asks as she smiles and sits up straight.

“Yes, I did. Today is all about you.” Bette says and takes the platter and set it on Tina’s legs.

“Oh, babe, it looks amazing.” Tina says.

Bette walks around the bed and get in on her side and gets under the covers again and snuggles close to Tina.

Tina spots the little note. She takes it in her hand and reads it. Tears start to fall.

“Oh, baby, don’t cry. I didn’t mean for it to make you cry.” Bette says and moves her hand up to Tina’s face and wipes away the tears.

“Oh, these are happy tears. Not to worry.” Tina reply and smiles.

“Good. Because this is a happy day and sad tears are not allowed. Okay?” Bette says.

“Yes, only happy tears. I get the feeling that we should buy a few packs of Kleenex.” Tina says and let out a little laugh.

“Yeah, we’ll do that later, but now, eat.” Bette says and points to the pancakes in front of her.
