    A Deeper Song, post 3

Tina looked at her sharply.  “You are not going anywhere.”

“I think getting away from LA for awhile would help me.”

“Sorry Bette ain’t happening.  You heard Angelica.  She would go nuts if you went away even for a day.  Give it a little time.  I can understand your need to be somewhere, anywhere but here.  You need to be here so that your friends and family can look after you until you are able to do that for yourself again.”

“You’re assuming I’m going to be able to do that again.”

“Yes I am.  Last time I checked you are pretty crazy about that daughter of yours that’s fast asleep in her room in your home.  You also have a new life that is solely dependent on you.  You don’t really have a choice.”  Tina told her evenly.  She did not want to be harsh with Bette but the way she was talking scared her.  If she was scared Angelica was right to be terrified.

“Tina, I’m not sure if I am strong enough.”  Bette admitted and Tina saw that Bette was scared too.

“That’s why we’re here Bette.  Lean on us until you are.”

“Thank you.”  The tears began again and this time Tina held her as she cried.

Bette fell asleep cradled in Tina’s arms.  She awoke with a start around one in the morning.

“Easy Bette.” Tina whispered in her ear and she stroked her hair gently.  “You fell asleep out here on the terrace.  I didn’t want to wake you.”  Tina knew that Bette would be disoriented and would not remember how they came to be here.  The lines under her eyes were a testament to her lack of sleep recently.

Bette attempted to sit up but Tina tightened her grip and held her close.  “Give yourself a few minutes before you sit up.  I’m not strong enough to pick you up off the ground if you pass out on me again.”  Tina said in a playful tone and Bette relaxed.

Bette remained quiet and allowed herself to take the warm comfort Tina offered.

“Please eat a little something before you try to get up.” Tina shifted behind Bette and took the food umbrella off the tray she had brought out earlier in the evening.

Bette accepted the plate and began to eat a few of the strawberries and blueberries.  Pretty soon she was eating the cherries and had polished off the soymilk.

“I see you were hungry.”  Tina smiled and eased out of the chaise.  “I can easily make you an omelet if you’d like.”

“No thanks.  Let me let this settle. Right now I’d like to go back to sleep for about ten days.”

“I’ll give you ten hours, then we’re going to the doctor.”  Tina replied.

                “What?!”

“You heard me.  Doctor Meadows unless you have a different ob.”

“I have an appointment with her on Monday.”

‘Ok, then you can have eight hours.”

“What, why do I get less time?”

“That only gives me three days to fatten you up in.”

“I’m quitting while I’m behind.” Bette shook her head.  She felt a little lighter.  “I’m going to bed before it’s two hours.”  She stood and once she was sure her legs would hold her she moved towards the house.  She stopped before opening to terrace door.  “Thanks for being here for me Tina, it helps more than I can say.”

“My pleasure.”  Tina replied.  “If you can’t sleep I’m just down the hall.”

    1. I am really enjoying this story. I love how Tina is there for Bette, and she feels close enough to Tina to except comfort from her. They are great as friends, but even better as a couple. Hopefully Tina can help her raise her child and be more than just a friend in the near future.More please.

    2. Damn….you got me crying again! I just love Tina. I’m glad Angie called her. Bette needs some good old TLC for awhile and Tina’s just the one to give it. PPS!!

    3. Bette’s got a great support system in Tina and Angie. Still such a sad story, but hopefully Bette’s starting to come to grips with her grief. Excellent, kelika, thanks for the post.

    4. Enjoying your story, as always. As much as I love a good tibette story, I can’t see Tina getting back into that relationship after Bette chose Rosanna….even a sweetie like Tina has her limits.

    5. What an excellent story! Bette’s sadness is palpable and authentic….not treacly at all. I love how Tina has taken command and is totally there for support and love. PPS.

    6. I second azmama’s comment about Bette’s sadness being so palpable and authentic. It’s simply devastating to lose someone like Bette has in this story. I hope Tina continues to support Bette while allowing her to grieve. Great story.

    7. I am really loving this story. Angie is as stubborn as her Mama. I cannot wait to see what kind of role Tina will have when the baby is born. Thanks for the chapter.

    8. All I can say is that I’m glad Bette has Angie and Tina to take care of her and the baby. We see that this is hard on Angie, but it has to be very hard on Tina to watch Bette fall apart knowing how much she still loves her, but has to maintain some boundaries in expressing her love. Great story K.

    9. This MUST be really hard for Tina becuz we know from the story that you wrote T was still very in love & wanting B back but B chose Rosanna in 1 version….did I get that right? And now its T who has to pick up the pieces…poignant, devastating to lose your woman, believe me I know!!!! As usual u write beautifully and tell a a tragic story wonderfully…thank you…I’m waiting for the next post patiently…

    10. In Tibette stories involving a pregnancy, Tina is invariably the pregnant one so it’s refreshing to see Bette in that role instead. Tina and Angie are a wonderful support system, and I can hardly wait to see how the Tina/Bette dynamic evolves. I’m addicted to this story!
