    A Few Small Repairs

“You did what!?” Bette cried “What on earth possessed you to think that it was a good idea to”

“Bette!” Tina said a little louder “You said you’d listen”

Bette sighed heavily and chewed her lip as she begrudgingly complied.

“I know I shouldn’t have told him. I wish I hadn’t but I did, so we just have to get past that” Tina said giving her wife a pointed look “We’d both had a few drinks and he decided to divulge a secret of his own”

“That he was in love with you” Bette responded like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“Yeah” Tina frowned at how readily Bette had seen what she herself had not.

    Bette nodded but said nothing.

“When I told him about what happened with the carpenter I guess he saw his opportunity and went for it. I made it clear that night that I was committed to you” Tina’s voice trailed off with the last sentence. History showed how closely she had come to crossing that line only days after.

Tina waited for Bette’s reply but her partner said nothing.

    “Baby?” Tina prompted.

Bette sighed heavily and held Tina a little closer.

“I’m waiting for the ‘I told you so’” Tina admitted.

“T, you know how I feel about Greg” Bette responded calmly “But I can’t blame him for falling in love with you”

“Aren’t you mad?” Tina asked “I thought you’d be so mad”

“I’m not thrilled, T” Bette conceded “But what right have I got to be mad?”

“I thought you’d be storming out the front door by now” Tina admitted with the hint of a nervous smile.

Bette looked at her uncertain wife and knew that this conversation had little to do with confessions made half a world away. She was positive it was more about Tina’s residual guilt which had clearly been loitering out of sight for some time now.

“You kissed Greg” Bette said matter-of-factly “Did the sky fall?”

    “No”

“Did you discover that you’re actually in love with him?” She asked.

“No” Tina replied with quiet resolve.

“It’s over” Bette dismissed it “We’re together. This is what counts”

“I swore that I’d never” Tina shook her head.

    “Shhh, Baby, don’t do it”

Bette held Tina a little tighter, hoping that her physical nearness might provide the means to reach out and guide Tina’s heart and mind home once more.

“You need to let it go now” Bette said before leaning in to kiss Tina gently “Let’s not talk about it anymore”

“OK” Tina agreed, grateful that her wife was so understanding.

“Why don’t you come to bed?” Bette suggested.

“I’m not really tired” Tina replied.

“Good” Bette said as a smile tugged at her lips “I have plans for you”

Bette took Tina’s hand in hers. As they walked inside Bette considered the ways in which she would prove to Tina that past mistakes did not govern their love or their future.

    1. oh that kind of plan will be interesting..bring it on some love..great chapter i´m glad Bette was cool and understood and Tina does the right thing telling the truth

    2. hmm.. i might not commented on each chapter of yours but i have read almost all your posts and i do enjoy reading it. so, yes, I’m with chase… you can tie up as many loose ends as you want… and i’ll keep reading.

    3. i see a reoccuring theme here. we will read anything you write, girl. you are just that damn good. tie up whatever you want. ill be here waiting for the next one. thanks

    4. HG,
I am not sure that I can so eloquently state how delighted I am to see you posting again. And for the cream on top, a continuation (of fill-in) of “You Break It, You Replace It”. *dancing around the room*
This was genius; Tina’s remorse and shame at what had transpired between Greg and her, followed by Bette acknowledgement and simple acceptance. The last images were ones to melt the strongest hearts and display how wondrous love can be. When you can admit your failings and concede to those you love then you are a better human being than most. To trust in your love to this level shows how much these characters have grown and are now able to move forward. Closure has been sought and received.
A bounteous harvest for all your fans.
Thank you so much for this fantastic and fabulous fan fiction.
And do post soon because this site needs your input.
      Your Loyal Fan.

    5. This is definitely one of my favourite stories; ultimately it matters not what brings you to post again, I’m simply happy you’re here. The fans are clamouring for more! Your writing is a pleasure to read.

    6. Always so glad to see that you’ve stopped by to leave us a gift. Thrilled that you’re still writing and posting–hope all is well with you. If you get a chance and have the inclination, drop a note to let a big fan know what you’re up to.

    7. Do you macrame by chance? Because you did a mighty fine job of tying up those loose ends!

I like how Candace is always referred to as ‘the carpenter’. As if saying her name would conjur up her presence.

Tina forgave Bette and now it’s Bette’s turn to forgive Tina. They both just needed to forgive themselves and move forward in their love for each other.

    8. Thanks for coming back to this story.

      Get Greg gone! Yah!
I love that Bette could put this in perspective. That ‘storming out the door’ strategy gets old.

      Thanks.

    9. Hack I am a bit behind on my reading. If I had known you had posted I would have tried to beat Chasemenow to the draw and commented first. I so love your talent. A mature, loving Bette…just what my heart longs for. Great story. Please give us more.

    10. I am so glad that those issues of the past will be addressed. Like the start. But I think that at some point that all too understanding, on Bette’s part will end.
