    A Final Dream – Chapter 28

    Tina Kennard

I am tired after practice. Everyone seems happy, tough. Bette is talking to Tuomas, making plans to get together sometime and write other songs.

I know Bette’s avoiding Gary. They’re both rather shy and they prefer not to talk to someone if they’re insecure. I want them to get along, but I don’t feel I’m the right person to force a friendship between them. Gary has no problem with Bette, Bette has no problem with Gary, they’re just uneasy around each other.

Seth is rambling about a girl he met after the gig at The Cave. From the beginning, he has been talking about the groupies he’d get if we ever got famous. Seth is such a guy, but he has a good heart. I honestly love them all, just like I love the gang.

Lee will always say what’s on his mind and he realises how rude he can sound, which makes him apologize on beforehand. Tuomas gets along with each and everyone of us and is a very positive person, always smiling. Gary is the most silent one of the guys. He always takes care of stuff, he’s also looking for some place we can maybe record some songs. As I said, Seth is just a typical high school guy.

Graduation is approaching and nobody really knows what will happen to Shades of Silence. Bette’s dad always wanted her to go to Yale, something she doesn’t really want. He used to push her a lot, but Kirsten seems to have changed him. Lately, he hasn’t talked about college so there’s a chance Bette will be able to go to another school.

I know my mom wants me to go to Berkeley or Stanford. I’m not sure where I want to go, it really does depend on the film program. It seems like my parents are slowly accepting that this is really where I want to go with my life, that this is what I want to do.

I know Gary will go to Berkeley – so will Seth and Lee. Tuomas is not sure yet, since he doesn’t even know what he wants to study.

Bette wants to study anywhere where there is a good arts program. She seems very interested in that. She just doesn’t know if she wants to do something with art or with music. She’s searching for a way to combine both. I guess Melvin can bury his dreams of a daughter in medical school, or even better, in law school, who will follow in his footsteps.
