“Bette you shouldn’t have…” Tina whispered.
“I wanted to, it’s for your desk.” Bette smiled.
Tina unwrapped the present, it was a wooden box with a beautiful pen and room for papers, on the box Bette engraved “We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done.”
“Bette…” Tina whispered overwhelmed.
“Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, it seems fitting. Tina, you are starting to do great things, and the judgment of the outside world? It will change accordingly.” Bette smile.
“Thank you Bette.” Tina hugged her again tighter then before. They separated only because of the waiter asking them what will they want.
“How about an appetizer and dessert?” Bette asked.
“You’re not hungry?” Tina wondered.
“Well there’s a big dinner tonight.” Bette said.
“Really? Where?” Tina excitedly asked.
“My father’s” Bette apologetically said.
“What?”
“Yes, we are expected to be there, to talk about our behavior.”
“I feel like I’m going to get reprehended in the principle office.” Tina laughed.
“Trust me, I’ll take the principle any day.”
“Bette it can’t be that bad.”
Bette look at her, “Oh I wonder what’s it like… being so young and innocent.” She sighed.
“Bette.” Tina laughed.
“You’re right, lets focus on you now.” Bette smiled taking Tina’s hand. “Are you excited?”
“Yes” Tina smiled, “I’m nervous.”
“You don’t need to be. It’s going to be ok. You’re going to be great, trust me.” Bette smiled squeezing Tina’s hand.
They both got out of the car going towards the door. “God please hit me, hard, something that will need hospitalization and visible!”
“Bette, stop it.” Tina laughed they knocked.
“God, we’re on the threshold to hell and you’re knocking.” Bette shook her head.
A little girl opened the door. “Hello, may I take your coats?”
Bette was shocked, “Oh… sure.”
“Elizabeth.” Melvin said.
“Dad, what’s this, grooming the next generation?”
“No, she asked to help today she’s a friend’s daughter.” Melvin explained, just then Tina’s mother came.

Wow Katharine could drive anyone to drink! I can’t believe Bette didn’t kill her. This just gets more interesting.
Hey Geek, great update. I’m pleased that Bette stood up for Tina. I hope Tina sees that she can trust Bette.
I hope that Tina really starts to see what love truly is and how Bette loves her after this “dinner”. Katherine picked a fight with the wrong person because Bette will always win when it comes to Tina. I was thrilled to see Melvin’s response to the situation.
Geek you rock!!!! I think Bette could have taken Katherine anytime and anywhere. I’m glad she stood up to her for Tina. I bet T doesn’t have any doubt about Bette’s love and loyalty to her anymore??? Love it, by far my favorite chapter. I can go to sleep now ;)

how can melvin see katharine as a lovely person? is he pussy whipped? Glad Bette gave her mother-in-law the facts of life. Mothers good and bad can so destroy their kids with their expectations. Good story. pps.
Great chapter…had tears forming in my eyes when Melvin said he is proud of Bette. I know how it is to get no acceptance and affection from your parents. I think that Bette can understand Tina in more than one way. But Tinas relationship to her mother is even worse than Bettes to her father. Great that Bette kicked ‘Mothers’ ass!! Love this story…so post soon please…
excellent chapter. as usual, great mix of comedy and drama (with a touch of hotness too!) Bette was great at dinner. glad Tina didn’t rise to the bait. and yay for melvin! looking forward to more geek.

This chapter simply had all the GOOD stuff…raw emotion between Bette and Kat, Melvin being proud of Bette, and Tina recognizing that she wants her life to be better. I can’t wait for more! Hope you are able to post again this weekend!
While who would have thought that out of the two parents Melvin is less of an asshole. We can see why Tina does some of the things thats she do. Wow can’t wait for her reaction/response to Bette defending and protecting her.

Tina’s mother makes Melvin look like Parent of the Year. She’s such a cold bitch, it explains a great deal about why Tina acts out the way she does. This was a great chapter, GITP. Bette and Melvin did good. Tina is trying to turn over a new leaf, never easy but always possible with love and determination. Thank you for writing!

Iiiiiiiiiiha, go cowboy! I even felt some empathy for Melvin now (that was reaaally nice! cold people really have feelings despite everything, it’s just very well hidden). Nothing in this chapter, well, in the entire story, was as good as this end. Let me just say something… how much of Gilmore Girls have you been watching? Amazing chapter really, just keep it going.
