A Journey For Love Part 1 of 2

The cold winter air swept in from the cracks in the wall. Why did have to be so cold during the winter? For the past three years she lived there, she froze during the winter. She had a pity job, could barely afford the rent. To her the apartment wasn’t worth $184 a month. Her heart torn between her two loves, writing and sleeping comfortably.

Where did all her talent go? She was a big time writer in L.A., why couldn’t she do that here? At least she somewhere to sleep, that’s all that matter to her. She hardly slept, though. Nightmares filled her head, and thoughts of what could’ve been. Tonight was different, though. She had no nightmares because she wasn’t asleep.

She was sitting in what she called her living room. It was small, only a sofa and a T.V. fit in it. Her head was spinning, the memories came flooding back. “I hate it when this happens; it’s been three years for fucks sake.” She wiped the tears from her eyes.

She was drawn from her thoughts by a very hard knock on the door. She got off her couch and walked towards the door. When she finally got to the door, she backed away. “It’s three in the morning? Who in the hell could it be?”

She pondered on whether she should open the door or not. She was scared at who it could be. A robber, a murderer, or a kind old lady looking for help. But the knocks kept coming, making hard for her to think. She decided to take her chances, “What have I got to lose?” and open the door.

She opened the door slowly. “Miss me?”

She was so stunned at who it was that she could barely talk. “Shane?”

    “Yep. Gonna invite me in?”

“Um, yeah. Come in.” She moved out of the way so Shane could walk in.

Shane looked around. “Small place, how much you pay for this?”

    “Um, $184 a month.”

“Totally not worth it.” Shane sat down on the sofa. “So Alice, how you’ve been? You got a lot of explaining to do. You know that right?”

“Yeah.” Alice sat down on the sofa next to Shane.
