Chapter Five

As the women made their way towards the buffet Tina stayed behind with
Karen. Hoping to find out more about Bette. Not wanting to make her
intentions appear too obvious Tina decided that she would question Karen
about Alice.

So Alice seems nice.

Karen was a little taken aback by Tinas comment and couldnt understand why
Tina was bringing it up. Um, yeah, she was a lot of fun last night.

Tina gave Karen a smile and a wink which made her realize that Tina thought
Alice was the one she had spent the evening with last night. Oh, no. I
wasnt out late with Alice last night Tina.

Oh, really? Thats cool. I just assumed by how you guys were acting
around each other that you had been together the night before. But thats
cool Tinas heart started to beat faster. Had Karen spent her evening
with Bette? She began to feel pangs of jealousy. Although she did not want
to admit it to herself. So who was it then? It was one of Alices friends
though?

Why are you so interested? Karen teased. Are you wondering whos left
for you?

Tina felt her face blush bright red. NO! I was just wondering which woman
you liked. I mean you seemed pretty happy this morning and I wanted to know
who was responsible. Good cover she thought to herself.

Karen grinned. She had seen the earlier interaction between Bette and Tina.
She figured that Tina was trying to find out something about Bette. Karen
knew she could be a good friend and tell Tina that it was Shane that had
plastered the smile on her face. But before she could say anything they
came face to back with the other women who were waiting just outside the
restaurant for them.

I know that you guys had mentioned the buffet, Said Bette, but I figured
since we were all here we could sit down in the restaurant. Itll just be a
few minutes. Is that okay with you?
Bette had turned towards Karen at the end of her question and gave her a
bright smile and a little wink as Karen nodded.

Tina felt her heart sink. And before she could even realize what she was
doing she began to feel her mood go downhill and she felt a frown form on
her face. She didnt want to think about why the idea of Karen with Bette
made her upset. She didnt want to be jealous of her friend. But try as
she might she could not push the thought that it wasnt fair that Bette
hadnt winked at her.
