“Bette Porter…………” The line was silent. “Bette Porter speaking”, but still silence. “Is any one on the line”, Bette asked – but no one answered. Bette pushed the end button and put the phone down. “Strange” Bette thought to herself but went back to work.

Bette had been looking through some files a few hours, trying to compare profiles on similer cases. Lara came into the office after following up on some clues. “Hey Porter……………how it’s going?”, Lara asked. “Don’t worry so much Lara – I’m fine” Bette said as she was looking up at Lara from her files. “Yeah right Porter……………I ran into Alice, she told me we’re going to party tonight”, Lara said with a big smile on her face.

“I said maybe, Lara…………I didn’t say yes”, Bette mumbled. “Ohh no you don’t Bette – we are going out tonight…………you need to loosen up again Bette……..and be your old self”, Lara said out loud. “I can’t go back to the past Lara – you know that…” Bette said with her eyes closed. “I know Bette………….have you two talked about the future Bette?”, Lara asked concerned.

“No Lara………..and there might no be a future for Tina and me after the way I treatet her, when we said goodbye”. “Don’t say that Bette……….you know Tina has deep feeling for you – she loves you Bette. “I know………….and I love her too, but that might not be enough Lara……..we are talking to each other yes – but we haven’t seen each other for 2 months Lara” Bette said with closed eyes.She was hurting inside and only one person could open up for that.

Lara sat beside her friend and huged her. “It’s going to be okey Bette – you two will make it – you simply have to other wise I’m never going to forgive myself” Lara said with tears in her eyes. “And why is that”, Bette asked concerned. “I should never have agreed to let you go on that assignment Bette – we both knew it would be dangerous…………..and you are paying the price for it now”, Lara sobbed. “Lara, don’t do this……………………..we both knew the risk and you are not to blame. I’m old enough to say no and I didn’t because I wantet these skumbags to go down just as much as you did”, Bette said while hugging Lara.
