A Walk on the Wild Side – Chapter 24

Bette stood back from the wall, admiring her handiwork. Yes she thought a satisfied smile on her face. Perfect! Now The picture will be the first thing I see when I awake every morning.

Bette looked around her bedroom, taking in the comfort of her surroundings. The King size bed, dressed with Egyptian cotton sheets, under a soft downy comforter, all coloured in cream. Bette liked to keep her home neutral, preferring a plain setting to show off her impressive art collection.

Of course this collection had been enriched by the addition of a Tina Kennard original. A unique piece, in fact the only one in existence that the artist had included herself in her portrayal of the untamed wilds of Africa.

Bette suddenly realised that this was the first time since leaving Tina that the picture hadn’t been held tightly in her hands. Her irrational fear that if she lost the painting she would lose the woman who had poured her heart into each and every brush stroke. Finally though she was home, Finally she could place the painting where it belonged. In her home.No.In their home.

Although Bette was feeling weary with the results of Jet Lag, she couldn’t rest. She had walked around her house, seeing it with new eyes, Eyes that she knew would be walking through her front door in just a few short weeks. She wanted it to be perfect, she wanted Tina to love this house as much as she did.

She walked over to the bed, to pick up the pad she had written her notes on earlier. Now lets see she thought. She had made a list of purchases she needed to make. She walked slowly to the couch and sat in front of her lap top to review her thoughts up to now.

Never one to do things by half, Bette had already contacted the carpenter who had worked wonders with the “moment in time” Exhibit they had held at the CAC the previous winter. She had arranged for her to meet at the house that weekend to discuss Bette’s requirements.

She already knew that she would need more wardrobe space to accommodate Tina’s clothes, but that was the easy part..she wanted to turn the study into Tina’s studio, and that was where the Carpenters skills would be needed. She wanted to bring more natural light into the room, but at the same time allow it to double up as a dark room. The specifications were way beyond her knowledge base, so she had asked up and coming photographer Ana Gomez to assist with the specifications.

    2. Completely AWESOME, charming, loving and just plain dang wonderful. I can’t help myself T. I just love this story. Sorry I’ve been gone for a while. But i’m back now.

    3. A gold star…. hmh… don’t think so……………… but what about 2 GOLD STARS or would 2 PLATNUM STARS be better? ;-)

Over here right now a full tank of gas for the Land Rover would be worth GOLD (maybe a prepaid gas card for your holiday?) .. Yes we know we have been spoiled with gas price over the years on this side of the pond.

You know,” He continued, “A nice room, with a nice view, and a proper bed………………………..and a telephone. What is the time difference between here and LA?” – Vual is a very smart man!!!

Well I’m sitting here with a silly grin …. Another wonderful chapter in a great story.

Next chapter soon PLEASE!! (I couldn’t stop my fingers from asking for the next amazing chapter…. I know you are busy but……I’m just a SAP and love this story)

    4. Vual: to the batmoblie tina.
Tina: can I play with the buttons

OK enough of that, that’s me trying to be funny.
WTF no animals?? I’m so going on strike until I get some animals!!

And what’s up with Bette’s room she needs to have some leopard print sheets and some fake palm tress, Tina lives in the bushes of Africa she doesn’t want to see neutral colors.
To show off her art collections WTF. Well, I know when I bring someone home it’s not to show off my art collection. OK so maybe I don’t have any art but that doesn’t matter.

OH and here we go with the carpenter, where to start…..
(hangs head low) T are you trying to start drama, I mean drama is kick ass, but I though you were going for loving mushy stuff?? Well, just make the carpenter look like angelina jollie and maybe I will forget about the drama and lack of animals in your story.
      Shout out to albeez

    5. Cute, cute, cute. Vual is the best! No, wait…you’re the best for making this wonderful story.
So, that make’s you #1, CR00 is #2 – for making me laugh until my roommate gets worried, and Vual is #3…
      LOVIT!!!

    6. tbsaver….I have a concern. Wouldn’t it be wise for Bette to tell Tina the original purpose for her trip to Africa to begin with….before Tina arrives in LA? I would hate for Tina to think that Bette’s love for her was just a sham, just so she could procure an artist for the CAC. Shouldn’t she tell Tina before hand? Don’t know why that thought just popped into my head. Another excellent chapter!

    7. Aww I missed you too, tbsaver! My vacation was fabulous, thanks for asking. Well I guess respite is defined as temporary. You’re such a tease! lol

I’m glad you’re having trouble keeping them apart too! Hehe It’s very considerate of Bette to make all these arrangements for Tina. Vual is such a nice guy! I’m glad Tina has him right now. Otherwise she’d go crazy! I’m looking forward to their phone call!!

    8. just caught up on several of your AMAZING chapters . thank u, thank u, thank U! i simply love this story … i’ve always wanted to go on safari (i’m a photographer) and u have teased my desires to the hilt. Hope your move went well . so looking forward to the upcoming chapters and LA :)

    9. Putting Tina’s picture so she sees it every morning was just so cute. She’s got it bad.

She’s the consumate planner. What better person to have in charge of getting the house ready for Tina? Plus, she obviously has the connections. But, did you say…carpenter? Oh, please not her.

The fact that Bette wanted a new bed was an interesting twist. You never fully realize all the history that it holds, until it truly matters.

Niiiice comparison of Bette unwrapping Tina’s artwork and her undressing her. The visual was, uh…yeah. It’s all about the details.

The way you described Tina’s overwhelming feeling of packing away a life’s worth of accomplishments was very vivid. Amazing how powerful putting your life into boxes and crates can be.

I want a Vual of my own! He is one amazing man. She is going to miss him tremendously. Wise, tender and sweet man. Such a great friend.

    10. After meeting Tina,Bette forgot what she went for. Hey she [Bette] had enough repect fpr Tina to get a new bed. starting fresh with a fresh bed. sound good to me. I like neutral color. they are cool and anything goes with it. thanks
