Bette leaned against a shadowed wall, her arms crossed over her chest as she looked at a crack in the bricks in front of her. Shane was doing the same, leaning on the opposite wall as she thought of something to say. Silence enveloped them, their tears had long dried up.

"So what do you want us to do?"

Bette ran her tongue over her teeth in frustration. So many things ran through her mind that she honestly didn’t know what to do. Being so used to having everything in control and in order, it was killing her not to have any answers.

"Nothing"

Shane turned her head and looked at her Captain. She knew Bette was hurting but she was confused as to what to say. Bette swallowed a hard lump in her throat.

"I’m going to look for her"

Shane’s eyes widened, "You can’t be serious"

Bette shot her friend a look that proved her statement to be anything but a joke. Shane shook her head.

"Bette come on, that’s crazy and you know it"

Bette remained as calm as can be, her eyes returning to that crack on the brick.

"What other choice do I have? You were there Shane. She’s coming after my heart. She’s coming after Tina"

Shane shook her head, "I still don’t know how she found out"

Bette sighed, "I thought we were so careful to not be obvious"

Shane pursed her lips, "Its not your fault Bette. To be honest I don’t even think your situation is fair. No one should have to hide the one they love"

Bette seemed to be in her own world, trapped with her thoughts. She didn’t say anything for a while but then finally she scoffed.

"I would leave her if I thought it would keep her safe but I know Jodi won’t stop until she takes her from my life so there’s no point"

Before Shane could respond, Bette shook her head and pushed off the wall, "Fuck this is so fucked up!"

Shane pushed off the wall too and put a gentle hand on her friend’s shoulder, "Bette . . it’ll be alright. We’ll figure this out"
