    Dinner, dinner, oh dinner. And what else?

                Bette then took off her helmet, as Tina gaped at her. “Not even if it came from me?”

                Tina then gave Bette the biggest hug of her life. She held her housemate close for a few minutes. Tina loved the way Bette’s hair flowed. She loved the way Bette smelled, like flowers that just bloomed during spring. And the uniform she wore seemed to cling in all the right places. After what seemed to be a few years, they broke off. Tina then turned to Bette.

                It was just a friendly hug, Bette thought, just a friendly hug.

                Okay, I just gave her a hug, nothing big, she thought, putting her hands in her pockets.

                “Hey,” Tina said, giving her a smile. “You’re home.”

                “I am,” Bette said, barely believing that she just got a hug. “So are you.”

                Tina opened the door and ushered Bette in. “Come in, and you better tell me why I’m being treated like this. Did you just get a raise or something? Have a date for the weekend?”

                Bette looked at Tina and smiled. “Maybe, if I get really lucky. Dinner first?”

                “Sure. Dinner first.” Tina replied, setting the bag on the table. “Hey,”

                “I have to tell you something,” The two women said at the same time. Tina laughed.

                “Are we really that close?” Tina asked, as she took two plates from the cupboard and set it on the table. Bette was taking out the containers from the bag. “But dinner first.”

                Bette laughed nervously. “Yeah, dinner first.”

                Dinner went by as slowly as it could have. Tina shared her latest difficulties on set—the lead actor was having trouble with his lines, the set got visited by rain the day before, and she was having problems with feuding actors and directors of photography. Bette, on the other hand, was more than willing to match her trials. She had a class that kept on passing notes about her and Jodi—she still wondered why her students would speculate about her life—Phyllis and her department were having trouble with three of the school’s biggest donors, and she had this general stress in her life that she didn’t even want to talk about. Finally, after she and Tina washed and returned the dishes to the cupboard, Bette stood near the door leading to the pool.
