All you need is love – chapter 40
ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE – Chapter 40
Bette had woke up feeling sick at the thought of lunch with Tina’s parents but had managed to put the thought out of her mind while she was getting the boys ready for school with the usual last minute panics for Dan and his missing running shorts for games and a cheque for $10 that Josh suddenly remembered needing for some end of term party his class were having. Bette wanted to give him a ten dollar bill in a sealed envelope but she knew that the school frowned on that sort of thing. So she had gone for her cheque book only to discover that she was cheque less. In the end Lara wrote the cheque and Bette handed her $10 with gratitude.
Bette had muttered darkly about it being a bad omen which had caused Lara to tease her employer for the rest of the morning about other bad omens. It was when Lara handed Bette a coffee and a few drops had spilt on the coaster and Lara had said that meant for sure that Tina’s parents would hate her that Bette had told her that she was getting very Alice like. Lara had retreated to do some shopping chuckling about how quickly Bette could lose her famed calm. And apart from Tina the person best able to calm Bette down was her best friend and publisher – one H. Peabody.
Bette had managed to put the horrendous prospect of meeting Tina’s parents out of her mind long enough to do 90 minutes work on her manuscript when she heard someone come into the house. She assumed it was Lara until the door of her study opened – that ruled Lara out. Bette had once yelled at her nanny for disturbing the writing process and since then she had missed out on many meals because Lara wouldn’t disturb her. If it was urgent enough Lara sent Josh in to be yelled at – which of course Bette would never do.
“Just popped round for a coffee and to bring you a few things “Helena announced.
Bette turned to see Helena always immaculate in black pin strip trousers and a pink tailored shirt – she was carrying two bags – one of them from a local bakery that speciality was deliciously wicked chocolate éclairs – Bette raised her eyebrow at the bag

Thanks for caving to the masses. This story is at an exciting spot right now. However, you did kind of cheat. They barely got to say two words to each other. I guess they have met..and thats what everyone was clammoring for. Looking forward to the next part whenever that is (hopefully sooner rather than later).
Finally Bette meet the parents in law, and they are good, now let the lunch began. Please post soon, thanks!
i do remember introducing my woman to my mom. but never an introduction with my father. he just didnt speak to me for over a year. then my mom died and finally he spoke to her. now he likes her. go figure. looking forward to more. thanks.
AllyE, thank you, thank you, thank you and yes you gave us exactly what we asked for, “their meeting.” Maybe we will not be as concise next time, we are now needing to see the interaction of everyone; Bette, the parents, the boys and girls and Tina and all the friends. Then Tina and Bette need some alone time while the parents are visiting because they do need to see each other at least once a day. Thank you again for such a lovely story and the was wonderful and loving. Just what they each needed. Now for everyone to get together would be great, letting the parents see just what a loving group they all are and how good they are for Tina and the girls. PPS
AllyE, I dont know if I said this in the earlier posts this last week but, We absolutely appreciate you giving us all the posts on this story the last few days, it was wonderful. Thanks again.
LOL @ what Seahurst said. Now Bette has to actually get through the meal with them all. I’m sure she’ll charm the pants off everyone. Hrm. Maybe only Tina should get that pleasure. Can’t wait for the next, cheers, ally.
You write beautifully..love dialogue between Helena/Bette
Ally, FABULOUS job, can’t wait to read more of this WONDERFUL story…PPS!!!!! Thank you!!
Sweet, just amazingly sweet.
Great chapter thanks for giving us this one.
Just Wonderful Ally!!!!!!!!!! Thank you
I love it when peer pressure works! LOL. Thanks for the update and bring on the L-Wing!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh, I got goose bumps. One page that was just mean.
Soooo sweet, Ally! thank you! :) PPS!
Yah! They finally meet. Thanks for posting this Ally.
Funny that Bette was SO nervous meeting the parents. Next time Tina can introduce her as “my love”. Sounds like Bette will soon be on a promotional tour for the book.
Hello allyemmerson, in the words of another “Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” – William Wordsworth. This story is just brilliant… this chapter was beautiful and emotionally inspiring… I eagerly anticipate your next piece, PPS. Sincerely, JC
what one page….that is cheating…no fair!!!!! LOL!!!
“Cyrano de bloody Bergerac”… :-D :-D :-DLove this story, Ally, thank you for writing it.
yay! What a brilliant chapter! Thank you for posting. Now, if you need more time to reread TLWing, just consider a luncheon chapter w/ TiBette and the ‘rents. :-) PPS.
thank you so mutch for taking the time to post this !!! we love you for it ;0)
Ally I think the 2nd page had got lost! LOL! Thanks for posting this. Love it..
Thank you, thank you, thank youit looks like the parents are very impressed…what’s in the bag dad…could dad be a closet fan of one miss Bette Porter? OK at least I will stop begging for more on this story for a little while so you can get back to the Prez and her new sister and the “First baby”. Maybe Alice can finally apologise to Tina for being a first class B.They were great friends until she started feeling threatend when she found out B&T were really going to do the damn thing. Tina could have been a little more understanding, but everone has thier breaking point and she did try to keep the friendship going whereas Alice just went off the deep end as usual. All this does is put more stress on the President so hopefully they get the whole thing sorted out soon. PPS
Hey Allyemmerson, I think there is something wrong with the website and this page as it is only displaying one page of this absolutely wonderful, delightful and brilliant story….:-)For those of us who are just so addicted to your writing, we do feel a little cheated but yet so very appreciative that you did post so soon.I also eagerly await your next piece PPS best regards ChelseaG
Hey Ally, I know that I have been a stranger far too long but am just about back to full strength after moving house and all the trauma that it can and does bring. Still have many jobs to be done so my full committment to the site is only 80% atm. Anywho, just had to take the time to state how much fun and entertainment that this story has givein me over the last few days. I am up to speed now and have enjoyed every twist and turn. Tina was so caught up in her parent’s approval that she forgat that their upmost concern was for her happiness and the care of their grand-daughters. They have witnessed it first hand now and realize the connection between Bette and Tina. Who could not be won over by the childrens’ joys and pleasure at being part of this massive family. They each have a play mate to understand their point of view and a compatriot to wage war with against their respective brothers and sisters. This and seeing the change it Tina’s state of mind is all Tina’s parents need to know that Bette is a positive force. And now meeting her is the icing on this cake. I am sure that Sarah and James will be won over and added to the list of Bette’s admirers after this visit. I bet they are glad that Ollie is out of the picture with Tina and being a good father to his girls. Ally, you have captured the genuine sense of family with all the good and bad things that brings perfectly. Thank you so much for bring this wonderful writing to my world. Your Loyal Fan.
Too cute. :D
LOL You know that saying, ‘be careful what you ask for.’ We asked to read about Bette MEETING Tina’s parents, and you gave us exactly what we asked for! Next time I will remember to ask to also read about them TALKING and interacting with each other! LOL I too am looking forward to seeing how Bette’s children and Tina’s parents interact. For small children grandparents can almost be up there with Santa. They sweep in a couple times a year to spoil them, bring lots of presents, and lots and lots of love. This is something Bette’s children haven’t ever experienced. Can they have that with Tina’s parents, or will they take a lesser place because they are not related by blood? Thanks Ally!
I finaly cought up with this story and although I never left a comment before (since i mostly was a silent reader) that doesn’t mean I don’t like it. The story is really well writen and the characters are so lively. keep up the good work on that. But there’s one thing I would like to point out that stroke me a little in your former chapter. You addressed one of Tina’s dates euh what was her name ??? Karen?? yes Karen you addresed her as ghastly and tubby and this did upset me a little cause although it’s only fanfic there are a lot of people out there having issues about their weight and looks. You don’t know how your readers look like and a comment like that might hit them right in their weak spot and push them over the edge as they already don’t feel good about themselves. I myself am very familiar with those issues since my own gf has them and I know she reads this story too and I’m pretty sure if she catches up with your chapters she’s gonna be hurt and I can start all over again in convincing her life is not all about weight and looks. I hope you’ll think about this in future and try to be more considereate of your readers. Thank you.
Loving your story. Hope Mr. Kinnard takes Bettes boys under his wing. Maybe there is a suprise in his bookstore bag for them?
Can’t we have one more chapter of this before The L Wing?
