All you need is love – chapter 53

“I’ll remember that when it comes to my pay increase “

Bette chuckled and looked at the disc. Puzzled she slipped it into the CD drive and turned on the speakers. The disc contained a single track – Bette listened to it with tears in her eyes

Every time I look at you, the world just melts away

All my troubles, all my fears dissolve in your affections

You’ve seen me at my weakest – yet you take me as I am

And when I fall you offer me a softer place to land

    You stay the course

    You hold the line

    You keep it all together

You’re the one true thing I know I can believe in

You’re all the things that I desire

    You save me

    You complete me

You’re the one true thing I know I can believe in

I get mad so easy, but you give me space to breathe

No matter what I say or do cause you’re too good to fight about it

Even when I have to push just to see how far you’ll go

You won’t stoop down to battle me, you never turn to go

    Love is just the antidote

    Nothing else can cure me

There are times I can’t decide

When I can’t tell up from down

You make me feel less crazy, otherwise I’d drown

But you pick me up and brush me off and tell me I’m okay

And sometimes that just what we need to get us through the day

(Author Note – Sarah McLachlan – Push from Afterglow CD)

Bette listened to the beautiful song several times before she got up and headed out of her study

    Dan was resting against Lara

“I’m just going next door – you okay Danny?”

    “Yeah – watching X files “

Bette looked at Lara “It’s not a bad episode – I’ve seen it before “

    “Okay – I won’t be long – I’ll take you to bed when I get back “

    “Can you be 22 minutes?”

    “I’ll do my best “

Bette went out of the back door and strolled across to Tina’s house. The front door was open and Tina was standing in the kitchen washing up. She looked like she had been crying

    “How’s the cold?”

    “Not good “

    “Where are the three Princesses?”

    “Terrorising Shane “

    “No left over food then?”

Tina shook her head and looked at Bette for the first time

    “I’m sorry “

    “You’re a jackass “

    “I am “

“That was a beautiful song “

“I know – it just summed up how I feel about you”

    “Come here “Bette said

“I might give you my cold “

Bette moved across and took the tea towel and threw it in the water. She put her arms around Tina and hugged her

“I don’t care about your cold or about anything else – there is nothing we can’t deal with -but you have to be open and honest with me. I’m not anyone from your past – we have a good relationship – we get on so well – please don’t let your past spoil what future we have “

    1. Hello allyemmerson, thank you so much for this beautiful chapter… it just goes to show that every one has to fight their own personal demons and we all hope that when that time comes along that we have a love as strong as Bette and Tina’s. I look forward to this story more and more and I hope that you are planning on running this one as long in not longer then your others… which are all brilliant as well. Thank You. Sincerely, JC (PS. You Rock)

    2. Okay… I just HAD to comment on this chap’, because… Yay!!! X-Files!!! Come on, what episode was that? Huh? Which one? What do you mean, we don’t care, it was just for the purpose of the chapter…? You mean it didn’t really happen??? … Oh, crap! I did it again!… The ‘living in Tibetteland’ thing!… Anyway, I think you did great with this chapter by adding a realistic aspect with the fact that a drinking problem might often go deeper than just not having success in one’s life… It was very interesting to see that old demons can come back to haunt you at the most unexpected times… And good to see how well Bette is dealing with them, just as we saw Tina dealing with Bette’s jealousy… Indeed, a relationship takes a lot of hard work but like Bette said, I’m confident that there is nothing they can’t deal with… Thanks Ally!

    3. Glad to see a little bit of drama. No relationship is perfect. Hopefully, Tina will work on exorcising her demons. She was way too harsh with Bette.

    4. Ah well, life is a continual process of self-improvement. As I am not currently in any position to fear success, Bette can spoil me as much as she likes, no arguments. Say, who the hell is this Sue person Shane left in charge? Maybe some chick from Utah.

    5. Your so perfect a writer that I cannot even come up with words other than “excellent”Nice way you have added some drama to the story. I am gald Shane poured the whiskey down the sink, I bet it was some cheap stuff as well please post soon

    6. Tina’s problems are very familiar to me… However anything can be tackled with the help of people who love you. Thank you for striking a nerve.

    7. I love when you add a bit of realistic drama to the mix. For some the addiction is alcohol, for others food or drugs. We all have our own private demons. Excellent chapter. PPS.

    8. hey Ally!! I’m with Kword75, come on! What X-files episode was that? (I still watch that show!) Jeje. Ohh, I liked the song , you have a great taste in music. I hope the girls can deal with their problems and be happy again. Thanks Ally for the post! See you.

    9. I like that you gave them something to deal with – Tina’s lack of self confidence and drinking problem could sink a couple – I can’t wait to see what you think she needs to do to pull herself together.

    10. You have done a wonderful job, this chapter is very nice and my friend you always give us words of wisdom, thank you so much for being who you are.

    11. Aawww, Ally! Too many emotions you threw at us, now! Shane is right. Tina is more at ease with all the negative stuff that Ollie made her go through and she is in a situation where she does not believe that she will be able to keep her relationship with Bette. Guess this is the time when you have to trust your partner and turn on her wisdom. Bette went through a lot of awgly situations with Emily and she can surely help Tina to overcome her fears and make the best of this nonsense unsecure feelings and make T’s self steem return. What’s the safest place to be, than the arms of your beloved other half. PPS!

    12. “Ooops, I think I did it again” That applies equally to dear, befuddled Britney, Tina, AND YOU Ally! Congratulation AGAIN on winning ANOTHER fanfic award.

    13. Wow! That was some fight. 1st, Tina got way to upset about Bette paying for her girls things. They’re planning on getting married for crying out loud & 2nd, Tina shouldn’t have been drinking, even if it was to help her cold. She needs to talk to Bette more about her feelings. Beautiful song she sent over to Bette. Happy they made up.

    14. Beautiful chapter and a wee bit of drama for them, no marriage or relationship is perfect, NONE. Love and understanding does conquer all, Tina needs to remember that. With Bette, she has everything anyone person could possibly want and more. We should aa be so fortunate. PPS

    15. Hello Ally, Apologies for not commenting more but phsyical life has been taking over from my cyber life. Anywho, am back on track now so just had to comment on your wonderful writing. I do live this terrific tale. Your Bette and Tina have and show so much love for each other. They are not perfect but are willing to share everything, warts and all, with each other. This seems so out of left field but Life does like to throw curve balls when you least expect them. Good to see Bette following Tina’s lead and comforting her lover. Now is the tough job for Tina; telling Bette everything about her drinking. I know that Bette will be her rock, securing Tina to her family and weathering the storms to come. All it takes is a little honesty. Can’t wait to see how it all plays out. Loved the way that Tina is unable to accept that she deserves the success she now has. All of the hard work and effort is paying off. Strange but true that we can each destroy yourselves in the good times as well as during the bad. WOnderful writing and creative storytelling. AllyE at her best. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.

    16. Standing Ovation– this story is just so well written. It’s probably the only fan fic where I enjoy the G and PG rated stories as much as the R and NC-17’s. Tina has a lot of demons to cope w/ doesn’t she? First I thought she was just all crazy b/c of the cold and not making any sense offering Bette the money for the girls. If only it was that simple. Good that Tina spoke w/ Shane and she is now speaking w/ Bette about why she is drinking again. I think these two can work through anything as long as they keep the lines of communication open. Kind of sucks that Tina wants to drink when things are going the right way in her personal and professional life. If that is the case how will Tina cope when she and Bette decide to marry (assuming that it would be a positive thing in her life)? PPS!
