An End Has a Start – Part 18
"Babe, is that you?” Tina called.
“Yeah,” Bette replied. She went over to the fridge and hunted for some water, gulping down half the bottle as Tina appeared. Bette set the water down and allowed Tina to kiss her hello.
“Where have you been?” Tina asked, pulling away and wrinkling her nose. “You reek of cigarettes.”
“Just out.”
Tina pursed her lips. “I told you when you left that I wasn’t going to let you get away with that, Bette. Now tell me, where were you?”
Bette sighed, giving up. “I went to see Shane, okay? Listen, I’m going to jump in the shower, I want to wash the smoke out of my hair.” She left the kitchen, but should have known that Tina wasn’t going to be put off so easily.
Tina followed, hot on Bette’s heels. “Why would you go and see Shane? What’s going on that you couldn’t just tell me that’s where you were going?” Tina asked as they marched up the stairs.
They reached the bedroom, where Bette began shedding clothes and not trying to avoid giving any real answers. “Look, I’ll tell you all about it when I get out of the shower, okay?” Bette said. “Just let me –”
Tina waved a hand and sat down on the bed, prepared to wait. Bette sighed, realizing that Tina really wasn’t going to let it slide.
Bette hurried through her shower, rubbing her most fragrant shampoo and conditioner through her hair and hoping it would kill the cigarette smell. She made a mental note to avoid Shane the next time she was chain smoking.
Several minutes later she was feeling much better. Bette blew her hair out quickly and pinned it up. She came out of the bathroom expecting Tina to still be there waiting, but she wasn’t. Bette got dressed in some fresh clothes and came back downstairs, ready to apologize to Tina for being so cagey. Tina might as well know the truth about her failed attempt to get back the negatives.
“T?” Bette poked her head into the living room and only found Angelica, coloring and singing to herself. The sketchpad Bette had given to her was covered in blue, yellow and brown indiscriminate shapes and scribbles.

Oh, Tina I love you better than ever! This filmmaker experience was needed. However Shane is an idiot. :o) Don’t rush the end of the story. I love this!
Bette, go have the snacks and spend some time with your family. As the video is off your mind now, show Tina you love her more for trusting you. Yep agree with the rest, no rush in ending this story. It keeps getting better. PPS
I just love your dialoque!!! THIS…is great couple communication. Tina does not let Bette slack on communicating, and Bette responds so well when she is “heard.” So well captured!! We’d never get this on an L-Word Movie because IC doesn’t know how to write depth/honesty/openess. So, thank you for writing a peice that would do justice to the Tibette love story…with your story, I can see Tibette together for the next 30 years. :)
Ohhh the tension. Love the dialogue. Can’t wait for more…Thank you
Wow! Finally Bette can bury the worry about Tina not totally trusting her.. Everyone could just f**k off. Tina is on Bette’s side. Great chapter. Thank you…
Great dialogue. Totally spot on. Bette still carries around guilt for past transgressions.
Ahhhh Omalley, you never lose your touch! I loved the way you had Tina explain away that video…why couldn’t Ilene have thought of that…oh yeah…I know why. Keep posting…I’ll be waiting!
What a relief. Honestly, Shane is almost as stupid as Jenny, but Tina has put everything straight.
Jenny, Shane, and Kit all tried and almost derailed Bette and Tina’s relationship. I hope all that mess will be put to rest.
On a person with a professional eye in video development could have seen the real story behind Jenny’s accusation of Bette so-called cheating. Thank goodness that it was Tina who put this to rest for Bette. No, rush in ending this story. I love it. Great post. PPS
thank goodness tina has a brain!
I think they’ve cleared that last hurdle… Bette’s been hanging on to the belief that Tina doesn’t trust her, but finally now, she sees that Tina does. They still have a lot of tension with Kit and their friends to sort out (except for Alice), but these two seem to be on solid ground. Great chapter, omalley. Thanks
this chappy & your writing are pitch perfect. tina’s laughter & reassurance were unexpected and excellent – hurrah for bette finally laying this demon to rest, with tina’s help :-) i was trying to find the right adjective for your story and the one that came to mind is “gripping” – thank you, can’t wait to read more
Well, thank god Tina’s in the movie industry. On another note, I guess they shocked the hell out of the pool water after Jenny was fished out of it. I know, I’m going straight to hell…
Take your time ending this story. I’m loving reading each chapter. So glad that Tina sorted everything out. Thank you :)
Hello omalley, I am just loving this tale and had to find the time to say in writing how fabulous it is. Bette and Tina have been trying to find thier way through the maze of emotions and dramas that were left following Jenny’s death. Her video of Bette was a major player in this stroy. So good and funny to have Tina finally see the offending material and shoot it right out of the water. Her professional eye was all that was needed to see the truth. What makes this all the more delightful is the fact that Tina had chosen to believe Bette over both Jenny and even Kit. That is the true essence of love and trust. Please continue soon and this is one of my favourite stories on this site. your are a wonderful writer. Thank you so much for sharing your words with me. A Fan.
