    An epistolary affair

    Dearest T,

Never in my life a trip to my mailbox had felt this long before…

4 days, 20 hours, and 45 minutes before I could finally insert the precious small key in the lock and find out that a letter from you had indeed been patiently waiting for my return.

When, only a few weeks ago, a little business trip to Italy would have been a much welcomed escape from all the bureaucracy that has become my daily routine in the past few months, this time there was nothing that the beautiful Florence could have done to distract me from my gloomy state of mind.

An unplanned trip that was originally supposed to last less than 48 hours, and that suddenly turned into 3 days, then 4, to finally extend to almost 5 days before the French Airline decided to agree with its personnel’s principal requests, thus ending this unbearable strike.

Great were my surprise and relief when my French colleagues informed me that 5 days to reach an agreement between both parties was most probably a national record in the history of French strikes.

T, I will confess that my low mood during those 5 days only came from the fact that, if the post had worked as it had during our first exchanges, it was very likely that I could expect a reply from you while I was still stuck in Italy.

I was proved right the moment I spotted your letter.

As I write this, I realize that your well-advised friends would have every reason to mock me and advocate for the use of internet in such a typical situation. A situation very likely to repeat itself moreover. And they would certainly be right…

… But somehow the frustration that I felt while I was away, only served to fuel the delicious feeling of anticipation that filled me on my way back home… The increasing beating of my heart as my footsteps led me towards the old building’s porch that sheltered its residents’ rusted metallic boxes… The depth of the breath I took just before inserting the key… And the exhilarating feeling that submerged me as my eyes rested on the precious blue messenger.

I could hear La Callas’ mournful wail in the background! Considere le defi releve! :0) xxxx

    3. Can’t begin to tell you how much I love this story. Hopefully Tina will take it upon herself to get on a plane and go to Paris for the weekend. She should get on email or the telephone and find out what Bette will wear to the park, so she will recognize her upon sight. That would be such a lovely surprise for Bette. That would be just awesome. Thanks for sharing this beautiful story with us. PPS

    4. I hope to taste that wine and enjoy that picnic with both of them. Even though I will be dividing myself between different parts of the world that should be fun.

    5. And once again, WOW !! How can you do this, K ? Everytime I start reading one of you chapters, no matter how long or short it is, I cannot stop. And I’m even reading this from my mobile phone as I’m out of town and don’t have a laptop with a “proper” internet access. I keep feeling like you put a spell on me with your words. I never want this letters to end. They’re always too short. Grrr ! I blame your talent. ;) when is next chapter due ? ;)

    6. Wow! First of all, Good luck for the job :-) then now… Thanks for finally posting! :-) I wonder does T/Kins know about the delay? or same as the readers-anxiously waiting for B’s reply?? :-p good thing after the long wait, Bette take a big step by proposing a date… Picnic! :-p LOL looking forward to the reply now… :-)

    7. Hi KW (and kins), I love the romance you have captured in your glosious words. It is such fun to have Bette wine and dine Tina when there is over 3,000 miles between them. It was sweet to read how Tina’s encouragment had helped Bette take a chance at happiness and to follow her dream… her own gallery. It is wonderful to have a sounding board who supports and nurtures you. As for their date. I can’t hardly contain myself at the possibilities. More pleas and real soon. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.

    8. They had met?..you two didn’t write it Yet right?…A picnic…. One is night and the other is a day. wow…But i think red wine is Tina’s Fave?..[in the show at least?] Can’t wait for the “Picnic” and their “meeting” again.

    9. That is too sweet! I hope they do meet soon. Oh congrats on your friend having a baby. Two of my friends had babies on wednesday, one in the morning, one in the evening. I am now a god mother :) PPS!
