    Angel Fire – 13

“Hi, you guys are talking?” Angie looked at her parents.

Bette sat in the double-wide easy chair, a chair where she and Tina enjoyed sitting together. But Angelica noticed that tonight Tina sat on the bed

“Uh hum,” said Tina, reaching out for Angie and hugging her close.

“You are so big,” Tina continued, holding her daughter. “It seems just like yesterday….”

“Mom,” Angie said with mild exasperation.

    “How’s Stacy?” Bette asked.

“She’s great and says hello to you both,” said Angie as she kissed Tina and stood up. She walked over to where Bette was sitting and kissed her goodnight, too.

“Angelica,” said her more realistic mom. “It does seem just like yesterday.”

They watched their daughter leave the room and quietly close the door and they both momentarily focused on the past. Then Tina returned to the present and the conversation.

“Tell me about LA when you were here for the internship.”
    —————————————-

Bette had come to LA eager to learn the management side of art, but also to be part of the city’s lifestyle. She was offered internships in other cities, but wanted to spend time in California.

Yale was a fairly liberal place, but it was nothing like West Hollywood. She had learned about the lesbian hangouts there and began frequenting them, first during the day and then at night.

But she was still inexperienced and unsure about what to do. She often went to a place called Milk, but even though she attracted some women, she never went home with any of them. Alice was right when she said that other people remembered seeing Bette before she made her grand entrance several months later. But this Bette was less noticeable, with shorter hair, not as well dressed, not as confident…not as memorable.

She was unsure how to approach other women and even if she had some ideas, she was very shy. This was generally hidden by her alpha, bravado exterior which made her look cold and aloof to many. When women approached her, Bette never knew quite what to say and the women drifted away. Whatever the signals were for this kind of thing, Bette knew she didn’t know them. Nobody seemed interested and she made no connections.

    1. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, that Red functions as an angel in their lives. Or Deus Ex Machina if you prefer. Talk about a friend in need. VERY interested to see the next chapter.

    2. Pancha, everytime I read a chapter you leave me wanting more and more and MORE! I instantly got dirty thoughts when she said “I want to show you my garden” lol Anyhoots I can’t wait to here about this expereince. I think older woman and thier younger lovers, be it man or woman are always a hot combination…I love to see that. Gosh I really hope Angie and stacy get it on, I’m blue for them! lol

    3. “I’d like to show you my garden,” Yvonne said after they had talked for a few moments. “It always makes me so calm and happy to be in it.” …I may need to snip a bloom or two, let me go get my shears. This has the feel of a saga, Pancha. I love a good saga, a ballad even, the ballad of Bette and Red, or Bette and whomever is the lucky soul to introduce her to the ways of l’amour. This is a western, isn’t it? Love it! Thanks!

    4. As soon as I saw Red I was like, “OMG it was RED!” and then I debated on whether or not to read the rest of the chapter or skim to the end. Not saying anything is wrong with Red, but considering she’s always been like an older aunt or mother figure it would’ve come off completely wrong to me. Jelly and Tace are way too cute.

    5. Great as always, pancha. A courtesan sounds like a very civilized way to get one’s experience in lovemaking. Very gentile instead of gropin’ and grabbin’.

    6. This is one of the best story. Aolder woman, that the way to go if you need to know the what and the where fors. This is how Bette was taugh the gentleness of love making and how to treat a lady like a queen thanks

    7. Red to the rescue. I can picture Bette as a very insecure young woman. When Bette stepped out of those offices she was the woman that we all love (and would love to be with). Sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next chapter.
